So I just did a clean install of the RC. My fan works fine up until I do something to load the CPU. Fan goes on normally (~45C). However, after I let the CPU go back to idle, the fan stays on (even at ~38C). I know there's TPFancontrol, but it doesn't seem to want to apply my .ini config settings...so it always boots into SMART mode and it randomly switches between GPU,APS,CPU, etc. temps.

I would much rather use a software like speedfan to monitor temperature and let the BIOS take care of fan speed, but the RC seemed to change something. I didn't have this issue with Vista SP1.

(P.S. After rebooting, the fan turns off...or at least at a low enough RPM that I can't hear it. And my BIOS version is 2.06. And just as I was typing this, version 3.01 was released. I guess I'll try the update now.)

    Any help would be appreciated!

I have the exact same issue, on x200 w/ RC. I had this in Beta 7057 too though. Seems there's a few issues to work out in general. Video drive is horrendous, audio port on Ultrabase does not work.

Okay, I updated the BIOS to 3.01...made no difference.

Ok, got the machine working again.

Fan isn't on for me all the time, machine is quiet and not too hot.

I have an X200s though, the thermal management may well be different :)

I just wanted to report that I'm having the same fan issue with my Toshiba Satellite. See my post at: http://social.technet.microsoft.com...f/thread/5e1f7e54-6e41-40e2-9f77-129a700d1057.

There was no fan issue. Then I installed W7RC and now once my fan spins up it will not spin down.

I'm tracking the problem at the following as well:
    http://forums.scotsnewsletter.com/index.php?showtopic=25442
    http://laptopforums.toshiba.com/t5/...ed-Issues-in-Win7RC-on-Sat-Pro-A300/m-p/35815

I note that at the latter, the user indicated that after a bios update the problem was resolved. However, on my own system a bios update has NOT resolved the problem. Moreover, given that the problem did not exist until an install of W7RC, I don't see how it cannot be linked.

i use tpfancontrol with w7rc to keep the fan silent (i had no issues with my x41, but with tpfancontrol it stays off nearly all the time, besides when i do cpu heavy tasks for an extended period). i also use rmclock to lower the cpu voltage and temperature.

Are you guys using the Lenovo Win7 beta power management driver? Even if you are, obviously the driver is in beta and power/thermal management can be expected to be refined by Lenovo when Win7 is released. It wouldn't surprise me whatsoever if Lenovo developed the beta driver to play it safe by keeping the fan running more than it needs to.

Anybody find a solution to this? I am running Windows 7 RTM and trying to find the best way to control the fan on the X200. It is running all the time and I'd like it to stop. I am running the latest bios.

don't know if this works on x200 but have you tried tpfancontrol?

I have tried it a little - I don't think there is any confirmation that it will run on the x200 - plus it seems a little tedious to configure. I wonder if this is normal fan behavior for the unit or a Windows 7 thing. I just got the machine and went straight to Win7 RTM.

tedious to configure? really? I didn't do anything to it except let it do its thing. There are times I will set the fan manually to 1, that's about it though. on my X61s, the fan doesn't really kick in until the unit goes past 63c.

Ok, maybe I will give it another try. I am not convinced though that it will solve the issue. When I tried it out before I still heard the fan. When I listen to the fan on R400 models I never hear a thing! Maybe because the x200 is smaller the fan has to run more.

    Since this got bumped...

I am happy to say this problem no longer occurs anymore. It seems Lenovo rolled back Power Manager to 2.43 from 3.00. With 2.43 and the Power Management Driver available on the beta driver website ( http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site.wss/WIN7-BETA.html), the fan is pretty quiet now and actually becomes inaudible after spinning up from CPU usage. I just did a clean install of Windows 7 today, and the fan doesn't bug me as much as before.

Ok, cool - I think I will try that combination. I may have before and thought it was working finr at first but then I started to hear the fan again. When I run tpfancontrol and run it on smart the x200 gets too hot. When I run it on 1, it's better but then it never has a chance to increase when it needs to. I really hope what you are seeing works.

Where are you seeing the 2.43 software? I actually have 2.50 installed which might be a vista version.

Can you post the links to the exact version of power manager and the power manager driver you are using?

Thanks! I don't see the power manager driver for the x200 there. Did you just use the Vista version?

Oops, nevermind - I found it. So how often are you hearing the fan running now?

Hmm...only when it's been on for a while or after I do CPU intensive stuff like installing programs while running CCleaner and playing music. Just make sure in Power Manager you "reduce noise dynamically" or "balance all parameters."

I'd say the fans were still better with XP, but it's really not as bad anymore now. Have you got everything up and running yet?

Ok thanks. I'll let you know how it goes. So I guess after it has been on awhile we should expect it to continuously run then?

I have it all installed and will be trying it out with a 9 cell battery on a flight this morning.
