My X200 has been fine for awhile and I turned the power ON and it says 'Fan Error.'
It wouldn't load Windows and shut off by itself. So I went into ThinKVantage mode and restarted. It works now, but I'm wondering what is the problem because I did absolutely nothing, but use like another ordinary day.
Fan on the left corner seems to produce heat when I put my finger on there (I honestly thought it produced more powerful fan when I felt it before - but it's very minimal now)
So I'm wondering if the fan is not working properly - which could eventually kill my processor.
Can anybody help me out?

Be that laptop problay new and in warrenty you shound just let ibm fix
The shutdown you describe is typical of over heating laptop
you shound phone ibm get them to replace fan
hell maybe they ship you fan out to replace it youself am not sure how involed in that model if not use you warrenty to get machine fix
In the Services guide for my x61t has error code what do when they happen am sure x200 has the same ? -
Best way to find out is to download a program to check the temps like http://www.cpuid.com/hwmonitor.php. If the temps are ok then theres nothing to worry about.
-
This is the result of the testing using CPUID program.

Is this normal?
Anyway, how long does it take if I were to send it to Lenovo? I might consider sending it in after the school is over in mid December because I have had problems with LCD ribbon as well since day 1. I need that to be replaced as well. -
Temps look decent. Try run a benchmark program or a game, leave that program running and check if the temps go aobve ~80c.
Seems like the fans are working though. You can always get the temp a bit lower by cleaning the place the fans blow the air our with compressed air or anything similar -
So you think there's no program with the fan?
It's been fine ever since I restarted through ThinkVantage. No sign of fan errors or other problems whatsoever.
I thought the fan produced stronger heat before though. Now it's really minimal..
I'm not sure where I read it, but I read that if the battery aren't fully locked, it seems to cause fan error. -
I guess your fan doesn't work. I have the similar experience with my another laptop and it turns out that the fan is dead
-
If fan does work, doesn't it suppose to produce a strong heat where the fan is located?
I'm pretty sure I felt a strong heat before this incident, but I barely feel anything but little heat when I put my finger by it right now. -
Put your ear to it...if you can hear the fan, then your fan is spinning.
-
I do think that it is running, but I'm worried because of the 'Fan Error' message.
