Hi there, I am dual booting my newly acquired X200 (Windows 7 x64 and Ubuntu 9.10 x86). In windows I have installed tpfancontrol and is behaving with minimal noise. In Ubuntu, even on start up and on idle the fan is running at level 4 (3700+RPM). GPU temps are very cool at 44"C. But the noise is unbearable. Anyone know how to control the fans in X200 in Ubuntu 9.10?

I have installed ThinkPad Fan Control for Ubuntu, but I do not know what profile to set it at--no profile exists in the application so 'generic' is loaded by default. I am not sure how to set it manually; does anyone have any specific settings for x200?
    Thanks

Rob, Thanks for the link--I have been there and tried some suggestions--in fact that is the place I got the GTK GUI for Ubuntu (somewhere in the middle of the page), but I have no idea how to go about setting the temps to pick up the sensors; pointers in this direction would be very helpful.

Ok, I have given up--I guess I must just live with the noise.

Well, to begin with, does this kind of thing work?

    #echo level 2 > /proc/acpi/ibm/fan

And does it change? (#cat /proc/acpi/ibm/fan)
