    Question:

Can the X200 Tablet be slower than many earlier Thinkpads when rendering video?

1 We ordered a X200 Tablet 7449-C4G (Win 7 Pro x32) with a view to using it as a high quality presentation platform for training and marketing. This would replace an X60 Tablet with the benefit of a faster processor, built-in 3G and a built-in Web Cam
2 Upon completing the setup and installation of Anti Virus, Office 2007 and Microsoft updates we observed:
    a. The screen is not white, but between off-white and grey.
    b. There is patchiness on the screen.
    c. The performance generally is not as fast as on X60.
    d. Default screen background (Windows Classic) the X200 is lighter cf deeper.
    e. Films & Videos I ARMREVOLUTION loads 2-3 seconds slower on X200.
    f. The video takes 30 seconds more to load
    g. The picture quality is grainy.
    h. There are flickers and breaks between frame transitions, i.e. the presentation does not flow smoothly.
    i. Downloading a program took 6min 30sec more than X60 which did it in 49 sec.
3 We concluded that there was a serious deficiency in the overall quality of the X200’s performance and there repeated the above test with and X41 Tablet T61 and a T42.
4 All the tests were performed with the system set to maximum performance, AC power and wired ethernet to the router.

Can any expert around shed some light?
    Regards
    Asanam

Not sure if this helps, but I have X200T with high NIT screen, yes its grainy but colors are quiet accurate, I use if for photo editing. And I can play 720p on 4500HD with around 16% CPU utilization.

Also mine is with SL9400 and I am able to run Win7 a VM with 2 Oracle DB and couple of more application servers without any issues.

One thing I would suggest is if possible put in an SSD, its makes a whole lot of difference.

I can tell you my X200t exhibits none of these issues. It plays 1080p Blu-ray rips just fine. Perhaps something else is amiss and you should be taking your concerns up with support.

I'm in agreement with ZaZ; while it's not a direct comparison all of my ThinkPads(T400, T500, and X200) are miles ahead of the old X60s I had, performance-wise. The X4500 should handle HD video without breaking much of a sweat.

Have you checked your system temperature with it under load? Try something like Core Temp or TPFanControl and see what your temps are.

Thank you everyone for your confirmation. Incidentally, the OSs on the X60 and T61 was W7Px32 and XPSP3 on the others. The test was using IE8 with all the latest updates-OS,apps drivers etc. Having owned a variety of T and X series Thinkpads for over 12 years, and having encountered a few faulty ones, I am at a loss to explain why this, the most expensive one (UK£1500), does not deliver the usual Thinkpad experience.

I believe there is a component level problem here and renders the computer unfit-for-the-purpose. In other words, a duff unit.

The reseller, Insight UK, disputes that there is anything wrong and Lenovo insists it must be a driver issue. Their support over the last 2 years has become abysmal and I am considering redress for a full refund. The question will be how do I prove that there's really something wrong with this unit.

Any suggestions are welcome. All the best,

    Asanam
