I currently have a X200 and the 1280 screen is perfect for my vision and needs. I'll looking to get a X200s, but with the higher resolution my main concern is it being too small for me.

So the question is, on the X200S can the resolution be lowered to, say, 1280, and still be crisp and usable?

    Thanks!

It can be lowered but I would strongly advise against it. LCDs in general (and laptop displays in particular) should ONLY be run at the native resolution.

Technically, the x200s will accept the entire screen assembly from the x200. This would give you some of the reduced weight and increased battery life (albeit not all as the LED display and carbon fiber lid plays a large part in both).

No, it won't. The location of the hinges are different on the X200 and X200s. You can't just switch the whole upper assembly.

You might be able to work around the resolution issue by tweaking the standard font size in the OS/Software

I believe he is referring to the DPI settings, which helps make text more readable. Vista does a good job with non-standard DPI settings, so that will likely help make small text larger and more readable.

mocatdaze, I had the same concern as well before I got my X200s, but I assure you you can always adjust the DPI settings in both Win7/Vista/XP and also the font sizes in your word processor or web browser and it will be completely readable. If you had a WXGA screen then you would be stuck with 1280, but with a higher res you can always adjust the font sizes and get the benefit of the higher res when viewing images.

I've had my X200s for a couple weeks now and I have no complaint running at native 1440x900 resolution with standard DPI settings. Yes, text is small, but I still find it very readable.

I just recently got my X200s as well.

Although the native 1440x900 was usable, I did opt to increase the XP font size by slightly increasing the DPI settings, and it looks great.

I've had good results when doing this on desktops as well.
