I've been looking up the differences between these, only thing i could find is the brightness lacks compared to the IPS and resolution, but my main concern is color contrast and black levels, i can't find much on how good it is in the x201 AFFS, i was going to upgrade my X201 with an AFFs or resell and try to buy an X220, but obviously the first option would be cheapest for me, apparently the contrast ratio for the IPS is 1000:1, so any help or other threads would be helpful

    thanks!

Neither is a bad choice, but both have trade-offs. The AFFS offers slightly better PQ and color accuracy. You get a few more vertical pixels with WXGA offered in the X201, which are more useful, but the AFFS is dimmer and since it's bulb lit, there's a good chance it's going to dim over time. LED screens offered in the X220 consume less power and the screen is the biggest battery drainer on any laptop. Sandy Bridge CPUs in the X220 are more power efficient too. That, along with the screen, should lead to better battery life. A X220 would also not require you to rip apart your laptop. Probably the main reason I upgraded to the X220 was the ability to do a SSD and hard drive. I disliked having to keep everything on the external.
