The x201 & x201s have just come on-line at lenovo UK. Minimum HDD is now 250 GB up to 500 GB and plenty of processors to choose from. With or without touch pad as one wishes. Unfortunately yes they are all LED screens, bad news for me. They look nice trying to find the model numbers in the Tabook ...
Oh forgot to mention ... the new ones are actually several 100s of dollars cheaper than the old X200/X200s still available at certain resellers ... guess they will have to take prices down drastically to get rid of them.

In the customization page, they just call the 9-cell battery "ThinkPad X200 Series 9 cell Li-Ion Battery". I wonder if they are shipping the X201 with the lower capacity X200 battery, or they are just simply upgrading all the X20* 9-cell batteries to the higher capacity one. (For those who don't know, reviews reported that X201 9-cell battery has higher capacity - 94WH comapred to 85WH of the X200 9-cell battery)

I'm glad to see the touchpad doesn't cost extra. They really did a good job making it optional. It appeases both the people who want the touchpad and the crotchety old trackpoint users who haven't tried a touchpad since 1995
I eagerly await news of whether it's possible to swap out the new LED panels for a higher quality screen. -

I am awaiting news ... I hope someone will take one X201 series apart and see if a different screen can be fitted in an easy way ... so people like myself can do it at home. I am not exactly sure what the new X201 & X201s weigh in KG with a 6-cell battery. My ideal computer is the X201s ... now if I can swap the screen for AFFS then the world is a better place LOL. I tried sitting at my T400 LED again today .. lasted 5 min. Here another question for the techies... can a LED 12.1 inch screen of a X201 be swapped for another LED screen of better quality?

it can be done but will cost a bit more and require a few more parts.
there is absolutely no getting around this no matter how much you agonize over it.
repeating the question doesn't change things, either. -
-
you'd be surprised how often that happens with CS and phone support.
-
why are you guys so obsessed with the screen modification? what is so good about this AFFS screen?

Non LED for me and good screen but I think after repeating my question one too many times hoping for a different answer I resign myself to the fact that my ideal laptop will never come to be ... over and out.

In the worst case, you will need to replace basically the entire LCD assembly with CCFL WXGA screen parts -- that is like replacing 1/3 of your entire laptop. And buying the replacement parts you need may cost you 2/3 the price of the entire laptop. We are talking about some very extensive (and very expensive) modification here.
Perfection seeker, the perfection you seek exists. There is never any doubt about it. The real question is, are you willing to pay for it?
Perhaps it is time you stop asking us questions, and instead start asking yourself some questions. -
If i installed Win XP on this, is there driver support? Could i ring up and request Win XP?

I don't see why not ... there must be driver support for XP one assumes. Well the perfection I seek is too expensive. It is damn shame though that a highly praised notebook manufacturer uses very average screens. And it is costing me already ... I bought a T400 LED for my business use at the office, but have passed it on to a co-worker because the screen gives me instant headaches. Now one can theorize about that, laugh about it etc. but it seems I am not the only one with the problem, and the problem pertains apparently to low grade LED screens, i.e. the ones Lenovo uses. There is no part in my business mind that understands why a Samsung Netbook worth U$200 has a better quality LED screen than a top notch ultra-light business notebook. I can only think of one reason ... profit margins.

so does tablet have good screen or not? does my outdoor have good viewing angle?

Already had an eye check my vision is almost 20/20 so it's not my eyes ... That was my first stop ! Nope it seems purely the LED screen with low frequency (under 100 Hhz) that some people including myself are sensitive to. So my only choice at the moment is CCFL screen, or a much better quality LED. I think I may look at Sony Vaio Z series. Though when I looked at the UK web site for Lenovo and went ont o customize a X201, it puts "NEW" next to the screen options, and those options existed before. So I wonder if they have now newer and better LED panels.
