So i have the opportunity to purchase either a X201 or X200s both have the ultra-base and both are about the same price (1100). The X200s is a 2.13 ghz and the X201 is a i5 2.53 ghz.
I do light SQL programming, lots of RDP sessions, and the usual word and excel documents, web surfing etc.

What i need is a notebook for traveling and i am looking at this or an elitebook.

I prefer the smaller Lenovo's and find they just rock. I am not a huge fan of the T series but i like the X series over any other for travel.

1280x800 is not my favorite resolution but i am worried that 1440x900 is to small

Any suggestions on which i should get?

You're going to want the X201s. It's lighter and if you have the 9 cell the battery life is the best of just about any Thinkpad.

Ya i was thinking about that and it looks good.
My only thing is the price i can get either of the units above is very good.
As this is just a travel notebook budget is tight.

I sort of find the X20x and the X20xs to be sort like the T and R series ThinkPads. Sure the R series is a little thicker and heavier, but I don't think most would notice unless you're overly sensitive to those things. I'd be concerned about WXGA+ unless you know you like it. The text size will be smaller than my UXGA R60. The best thing would be to look at one in person if you can find one. Good luck.
