I'm wondering if anyone has pictures and dimensions of an x201 with the different sizes of batteries.

    9 cell

    4 cell

The 6 cell is like the 9 cell on the bottom, but doesn't extend out the back.

That's pretty much it. The Tabook has your weights and measures.

What is the battery life like between the 6 and 9 cell?

Any recommendation on cases for the different batteries? This will be used for school and work.

i have the nine cells and the battery life is around 6.5 hours on average use, the 6 cells is 33% less than that, so around mid 4 hours is the average life.

6.5 hours??? I'm guessing that's when you make no effort to maximize your battery life? I get that much time if I'm streaming hulu.com the whole time.

How long can you get out of your 9 cells under battery optimised mode? What CPU does your laptop have and are you on SSD or platter hdd (if so what RPM)?

I dunno about battery optimized mode, I make my own power schemes.
    i5-520M and the 320gb 7200rpm hdd.
I set it up to basically be ultra-power saving when on battery. If there was anything in the BIOS that isn't in the power manager, I did it there too (can't remember if there is any such thing)
Also, I think screen brightness has a big impact on battery life on this comptuer.

The X201 that i was using was from a friend, he said that he is using the 9 cells battery from his old X200. it is Sanyo celled and is currently holding only 60% of the original charge. Also, he has the i7-620m CPU with the 160 gig 7200 rpm hdd.

So maybe that is what accounted for the discrepancy.

I've read reports of a bug in Windows 7 that inaccurately reports battery capacity... I don't know if it's true or resolved or what. But several owners have reported booting into Linux and getting radically better (or worse) capacity from their laptop batteries depending on which Linux they're using and how they configure the power management, ACPI, etc.

There was a firmware about that, and I don't believe the issue existed on the X201.
