    Hi guys,

bought an X201 but havent received it yet. (a friend picked it up for me in the US and i'm only meeting him in singapore next month)

i'd like to get a case in the UK (im based in the uk) as online prices are cheaper than the shops in singapore generally. Want to get the case before returning to the UK as i do not want the laptop to get scratched up in my backpack when i travel.

so im not sure the exact dimensions etc, the one i ordered has a 6 cell battery. I gather the 6 cell sticks out of the back? would this case fit:

Belkin Business Line Sleeve for Netbooks Up to 12.1 inch - Neoprene/Faux Leather: Amazon.co.uk: Computers & Accessories

    inner dimensions 310x240x40

any other suggestions also very much welcome. i like the "official" thinkpad neoprene case but i figured i better get something more professional looking as i'll be carrying the X201 around in my briefcase to meetings from time to time and need something that looks businesslike.

    cheers

Since the x201 is a 12.1 system yes it will work.

? not sure what you're trying to say. my config has the 6 cell and i was wondering if it would fit into the case, the interior dimensions are:

    310x240x40

would be an extra bonus if the 9 cell would fit also, as i may buy it in the future, who knows.

i looked at the dimensions in some of the reviews, but im unsure as to whether it included the protrusion or not :(

If your config has 6-cell battery then the X201 will fit most non-Lenovo sleeves. I recommended the Lenovo sleeve because (1) I didn't know your personal config and (2) that sleeve is designed to accommodate the protruding 9-cell battery.

The X201 6-cell battery does not protrude from the back. It only raises the notebook up a little.

oh really! This is news to me. I was under the impression that the 6 cell protruded out the back, and the 9 cell protruded out the back AND raised the laptop.

Thanks for the info :) +rep

thanks again for the clarification; seems like my concern was due to the wrong impression that the 6 cell stuck out.

bit disappointing as i rather the battery to stick out the back than make the unit thicker, but oh well.

i think i'm going to go with the third party case, the lenovo description does say its best fit with the extended battery, so i guess with the 6 cell its gonna be a little loose especially after comparing the dimensions of the lenovo case, the third party case, and the X201's dimensions from several reviews.

the chances of me getting a 9 cell are slim now that i know the 6 cell does not protrude, and i think the 6 cell should be enough runtime wise.

what case do you use for your X201?

Oh, the 9-cell both raises the unit up a tad and protrudes out the back. :)

I use a Lenovo sleeve for my X201 (with 9-cell).

damn, those batteries are pricey. is there an alternate source that is cheaper and reliable? the X201 i bought was used, but its quite new, the previous owner only bought it in may, so i guess the battery is still under warranty, but just in case i need to get a replacement.

What a pain, eh? Yes, there are after-market suppliers that sell FRU-compatible batteries for less, but reliability and performance are uncertain.

For older ThinkPad models (like my T43p), Lenovo discontinues its supply of parts, and the only way to get new battery is to search elsewhere, like eBay.

yes, its ridiculous when a replacement battery costs 1/4 the price of what i bought the entire system for :|

    kaso,

since you have that sleeve, do you think there is enough horizontal clearance in that sleeve to accommodate the x220 which is slightly wider than the x201?

filmbuff, I'm afraid that sleeve would be tight, width-wise, for the X220.

does the power cord for the X201 happen to look like this? im going to be using mine in the UK and singapore primarily and the one i bought comes with a US adaptor, so im looking for a replacement cable

Cloverleaf Computer Power Lead: Amazon.co.uk: Electronics

is it the cloverleaf connector like the one in the link?

    cheers

    $$$$$

no point replacing the entire brick since its just the cord that needs replacing. the brick itself can handle power from different countries.

is that battery site reliable? their prices seem quite reasonable.

Yes. The one on the right (that plugs into the "brick").

brilliant. yes, the plug on the left is the UK wall socket plug.

    thought of getting this adaptor

worldwide usb Travel Adaptor/charger plug -works in: Amazon.co.uk: Electronics

but then after looking at pictures of the power brick i realised how compact the brick was compared to the massive 130w one that came with my dell and decided that it would be too bulky to always have the adaptor stuck on.

thanks for all the help !

ahhh, too bad. was hoping it could fill double duty for a x220 if i decide to go that route.

i may still pick one up of these sleeves anyway to try with a newly acquired x200. i'm currently using a caselogic 13" sleeve for my 200s and 201.

    thanks for the reply.

but that case is neoprene, it should be reasonably stretchy.

dimensions of X220 (as per NBR's review)
    Dimensions: 12 (L) x 8.2 (W) x 0.5-1.5 (H) inches with 6-cell battery

dimensions of case (as per lenovo website:

    height: 11" width: 12"

sounds to me like it would fit..albeit snugly.. especially since the neoprene is stretchy
