I wonder if anyone could help me out here, I am a basic windows user, light business and little gaming. I saw the Macbook air today really thin and light. I tried out Mac os and it was ok , but not really that much better than windows7. Lots more gimmics though. I can use either operating system.

I feel the X201 is a faster machine and probably a lot more advanced than a
    Mac.
Here is the thing, Ii am kind of thinking the X201 has a better build quality?
It seems that metal case would kind of get scratched a lot? Everyone raves about the Mac quality?

One other thing Mac DOES NOT offer accidental damage on their computers, and I really wanted that, price well I can spend up to 2K

    Any thoughts

The MB Air CPUs are fine for most uses. I think the X301 is probably more of a direct competitor to the MB Airs. They've been discontinued, but you can probably still find one via eBay or google.

MB air is an okay machine for doing document processing and net surfing... if you run anything CPU intensive, the machine would start to slow down.... not sure how the latest variants are in this respect. But Apple have placed greater emphasis on design and clean lines, than cooling efficiency on most of the Macbook Pro and Air series. Fortunately, this is not the case with their intel Mac Pro desktop machines.

I haven't taken delivery of my updated Air's yet - I cancelled the orders and decided to steer clear of Rev. A issues for a few months, and in any case it'll be a few months before temps where I hang out in get to levels which will cause instability on the Air again.

But even in word processing I've been in situations in summer (early '08 & late '08 Air) and late summer (the mid-'09 Air, which I upgraded wholesale to around the end of August last year I believe) where the machine has started to become unresponsive. And I haven't seen any noticeable improvements to the cooling to make me believe the situation would be better on the new Air.

All in all it's a statement aesthetic product for people who don't do a lot, and more importantly who aren't ultimately that inconvenienced when things go wrong because they don't do anything that worthwhile. The Lenovo is about getting results, just like the equivalent Dells or the HPs. If the former works for you and the dash you cut is more important (although it's a very unimaginative kind of dash, as every other fashionista will end up have one), then the Air may be a good choice.

And @lead_org, no it's the case. The Pro is not adequately cooled to run stably in the kind of ambients that an HP or Dell workstation would have no trouble in. The Mac Pro has the same problem as the Macbook Pro: Class-leading silence at idle, but in order to cool itself (and less well at that) at loads it actually ends up being far noisier than its competitors too.

I saw the 11" air today and the 13" last week. They seem like nice little machines if you just want to do internet, office and media. They're a bit pricey, but you're getting a SSD and an above average screen.
