So out of the blue my X201i just died, I've pulled it apart and can't see anything wrong with it, I was just surfing the net and click it just shut down, no power, no leds, no nothing. Seems like a fuse blew, I multimetered a couple of fuses on the motherboard I could find and they seemed find.

Anyway long story short, I don't really have the money to sink into a new laptop right now, well especially not a decent one.

    I have two questions though:
    1. I see X201s motherboards on sale on ebay for about $275 with a low voltage i7, will the X201s motherboard fit in the case for the X201i (they appear to be almost identical, at least the external connectors, screw holes and dimensions, can anyone confirm that I can do the swap. Also I understand the X201s came with a higher resolution screen, will I have any problem hooking up my X201i screen, I assume it's like a regular external monitor and it will work find no matter what the resolution is.
    2. I assume I will experience a performance drop going to the i7LM vs. the 2.5GHZ i5 I had before, how bad? I use it mostly for web surfing, office and light photo editing.

    Thanks for any feedback.

    1) If it's anything like x200s versus x200 (vanilla), the motherboards are the same, but the vanilla just has a larger heatsink to accommodate the higher-TDP processors.

    2) Probably not much in your usage.

Thanks for the feedback. Yeah the only difference I could see in the pics was the location of the power connecter for the DC jack pig tail and the fan power connecter, seems like it was to accommodate/a change, for a slightly different heatsink/fan. I will order up the X201s mobo, so the different resolution that the systems came with wont effect anything?
Yeah I figured it wouldn't effect much, the passmark scores are within a couple of hundred of each other.
    Thanks again.

So FWIW after reassembly and holding the power button with everything battery and adapter out (I did try this before diss-assembly) it now works again. Hopefully I can cancel the mobo order.
