Are the pic from the Laptopmag review faked? The viewing angles of the screen look very good and indeed the review praises the screen. So whats the deal? The feedback i see here is that the screen is terrible. Is it possible there are multiple suppliers?

Yes the picture does look like it's fake. I think they just photoshop an image onto the notebook.
-
Which begs the question, why would they want to do that? What, Lenovo paid them off?
-
-
Either way its dissapointing. Special panel (unavailable or muliple suppliers?) or photoshopped...If this screen exists I want it
-
I don't know. They seem to have the battery life more accurate than the review on this site. The screen does not look that bad but it definitely isn't as good as it looks in that review.
It's not perfect, but the people who complain about it on this site are very vocal. -
According to their description it is not a fake
-
Why don't you if you're so interested
.

Is there any other picture of the viewing angle of the x201s.
-
I emailed Laptopmag. Will let you folks know.

Guys, those photos are real. They use professional lighting system Or the laptop are place in a big light box. The Screen brightness are adjusted to max and camera are set to overexplosure sightly to make the photo looks correct and nice. ABOUT the 135 degrees photo, notices that they tilted the laptop body to decrease angle to make a better photo and make you think the screen has good viewing angle.
i hope that i explain it correctly. -
Oh...and its call commercial photography.
-
Obviously it is a commercial production, but it is a misrepresentation when they talk about how decent the viewing angles are. I don't expect it to be anything new or special though.

holy crap.
I have a macbook pro, hp 5102 and I had no idea what a good screen looked like. They are not significantly better than the X201s that I also have.
However, I just saw something this week that blows my mind. I have a feeling that our definition of a good screen is going to change after this Saturday. -
-
OLED will come down in price eventually and then we will all be happy!
-
hmm intriguing. give us the scoop
utopian: good info. however for laptopmag to reinforce the impression of the pics with positive comments regarding viewing angles is dubious to put it mildly. -
IPAD as far as i know is LCD IPS tech. I have had IPS screens in 37 inch, 30 inch, 27 inch and 24 inch oh and 20 inch and I loved them all.
-
Dont believe every words that the review said, any review. they are not bibles. -
Why do you want extreme viewing angle visual performance?
-
I'm not a fan of OLED at all. Very expensive and I didn't think it was worth the cost.
However, I will never buy another laptop that doesn't have an LED IPS screen. This is a game changer. Regular LED screens are dead. E-ink is dead.
Anyway, I'm not sure why people have so many concerns about the X201 screen vs other laptops. After Saturday, I think there's a new bar for what we will want and there is no laptop out there that can compete. -
Dead? You're quick to judge technologies that have a time and place. Scalability matters too. LED refers to certain backlighting technology that has nothing to do with IPS inherently.
I have a CCFL IPS screen.
And why aren't you a fan of OLED it is a new technology; it isn't scalable to mass market yet. That is no reason to not like it. All technology is like that initially. -
oled is the future, but how long do we have to wait until the price become affordable.
-
Too long
.

Well, I've had an OLED screen with the Nokia N85, Zune HD, and an iRiver PMP. With any sunlight, they were completely unreadable. However, the technology is still very, very young.
Given the price and performance, I think LED IPS will be nice for the short term.
