The X201s is still no where to be found. It disappeared from Lenovo's website. Someone else on the forum pointed out that it might be discontinued due to Lenovo not being able to source the screen.

Anyone have an idea what's going on?!!

Were it true, it's unlikely Lenovo is going to share it with anyone here unless it were some official announcement. Anything you'll get here is likely to be speculation.

the thinkpad PSREF #380 was just released and to no surprise the X201s is still listed and a new topseller model was announced in #379.   speculate what you want about the display being in short supply but the X201s is not discontinued. *

I just ordered an X201 (current deal w/9-cell battery and the i7-620m) and I saw no X201s listed anywhere.

When I ordered my X201 the guy told me the X201s is just on hold while they get some parts issues sorted. Makes sense given that you recently started to see pre-configured X201s laptops at places like J&R.

Any news? Is it really discontinued? How could a lighter version of the the x201 with better battery life and a better screen be given up on? I just don't believe it...

I'd be wary of the X201s resolution. After having used a X301, there is absolutely no way I'd want to use a 12" screen with higher resolution than WXGA.

I heard it was discontinued because Acer bought to many of the lm chips?

And where did you hear that?

Well, a 12.1" 1280x800 screen has 125 pixels per inch (PPI) while a 14.1" 1440x900 screen has 120 PPI - quite a small difference. I can't tell the difference in pixel density between my old 12.1" 1280x800 display and my current 15.4" 1680x1050 display (129 PPI).

Text can easily be enlarged by increasing the DPI setting in the OS, and icons can be scaled up by right-clicking on the desktop and selecting a size (or by holding Ctrl and scrolling on the desktop).

Where exactly are you seeing the X201s in the tabook? What model is it?

my post was made nearly two months and three PSREF revisions ago.   we're now on #383.   i also stated which PSREF version i was referring to and a disclaimer to go with it.   you do the math. ;)

afaik, the X201s still hasn't been officially discontinued.   they're just in extremely short supply and pulled from public docs until supply can return to normal levels.

what does it mean if a certain model is a topseller model? Does it just mean its a preconfigured model and not a CTO model or is there more to it?

topseller models are models preconfigured for sale with the most popular features.   everything listed in the PSREF sheets are either topsellers or preconfigs.

Here is the list of withdrawn products:

It seems x201s was withdrawn in July 2010.

interesting.   can't say i've paid any attention to the withdrawn book.   many resellers still have topseller X201s models in stock so now may be the time to buy if having 1440x900 is important.
