    Alright, so I have a Thinkpad X201s, a factory pre-made 5143-28U. Its got a i7 640LM, 8GB G.Skill PC10600 RAM, Crucial M4 128GB SSD, W7x64 Ultimate, and all the rest is the standard stuff.
I've got a Sanyo 6-cell battery with 150-ish cycles and 85% of original capacity left that will only give me just over 2:30 battery life on maximum battery savings. I've also got a Sanyo 4-cell battery, with just 8 cycles and 100% of the capacity, which gives a mere 1:30 of battery life. The wattage I get is in the range of 11W-22W, and the CPU idles at 55C.

I don't have anything unusual running in the background besides Rainmeter(Monitoring RAM/CPU, Disk space, weather), and the regular Lenovo programs, but disabling Rainmeter doesn't have an effect on the battery life. Same goes for dimming the screen to 0. I've also run the Powercfg command in an elevated CMD prompt, but the log was not helpful at all.

What can I do to get better battery life out of my Thinkpad? I'm not seeing anything near the advertised battery life. Everything would be perfect if I could just get at least three hours of battery...

Unfortunately the X201 ThinkPad featured Arrandale CPUs, which do match Penryn idle levels, the load levels is FAR worse. Though I find it odd, my old X201 with i5-540M standard voltage i5 could get ~9 hours out of the 9 cell (mine was 89/93 WHr) before I traded it. I dimmed the LCD down to like 1-2, and I was able to achieve like ~9 watts an hour with a 7200 rpm mechanical drive.

My T410s suffered from the same issue, I couldn't get above 3 hours even on idle (6 cell was gimped from 56 WHr to 44 WHr to make it slim), though that had a 250 GB 5400rpm 1.8" HDD.

You probably want to start with checking the power related settings in the BIOS.

Make sure you're not running the CPU at 100% frequency at all times or something. Check in Power Manager or Power Options.

My X201t with the same CPU and intel 320 SSD can get about 6 to 7 hours on the 8 cells.

CPU is set at the lowest clock as per the maximum battery settings. All the power saving settings are set in the BIOS as well.

Still doesn't make sense why your 640LM would be worse at low load than a SV i5, idle/low load the power draw should be exactly the same, only at full load will SV and LV CPU make a difference in power draw, though I found my T410s was horrid on battery, when I bought it it was already 36/44 WHr left on the battery. What does Power Manager say the current battery WHr is?

For the 4-cell, it says "Remaining capacity - 13.06Wh."
    Full charge says 30Wh.
