    Hello!

I've been thinking lately about buying a second display for my X220. I haven't yet bought a docking station (which has 2xDVI-D), but I still would love to use two monitors simulatenously. Is it possible to connect one display using the DisplayPort and the other using traditional D-SUB at the same time, for the time being, until I buy a dock?

I wish I could check by myself, but I have no second monitor at hand now :(

    Thanks!
    Mateusz

I can certainly use both D-SUB and DP at the same time on my x201 when it's docked. Note that the laptop LCD must be off at that time, though; my understanding is that this is a hardware limitation.

With respect to two DVI-Ds on the docking station, I wouldn't be surprised if it was *not* possible to use them both on x2xx, though I would certainly be interested to hear a report to the contrary.

Could you, please, in your free time, check if it is as well possible if the x201 is not docked? I plan to use this as a temporary solution prior to acquiring a dock, therefore it would be great if my X220 could support two displays with no additional hardware.

Also, I would be very grateful for any reports on using 2xDVI-D on the dock with x200 series.

To tell you the truth, the picture quality on an analog output is substandard for my taste and I would strongly wish to have the ability to connect both displays in a digital way. be it 2xDVI-D, or DVI+DisplayPort, it doesn't matter.

    Thanks!
    M.

just tried with an old Philips 190S and a Dell U2711.
    Able to display on max 2 screens only;
to use extended desktop on both external displays, you'd need to get into the Intel control panel - I wasn't able to choose both external displays from the win 7 screen res window.

Sorry, it's impossible to check this. x200/x201 only have a single VGA output built into the chassis; there is no digital out in any form without docking.

Same problem. x200/x201 do not support standard Thinkpad docking stations with multiple DVI outs; they have a dedicated UltraBase that only has one VGA out and one DisplayPort.

x220 is clearly much more flexible in this respect. Thumbs up for Lenovo!

I have run 1920x1200 over VGA for a few years and it wasn't bad at all, though I did have to boost sharpness on the monitor. Actually, the reason why I ran it like this for years was that I forgot about that sharpness setting and when I first tried DVI-D, I found the result to be oversharpened and went back to VGA. Took me some time to figure it out.

Thanks for your time! I have just checked - a friend borrowed me a display for a while. My X220 undocked works fine with two displays - one connected to VGA, and another to a display port.

The LCD internal display must be turned off though, which is not a problem for me.

    Thanks for your help!
