Man. People really, really, *really* want to cling to the idea that there's a difference between brands, huh?

Well... who am I to spoil the fun? Carry on!

Do people feel a difference between 4 and 8 GB? If so, in what sort of applications? Just curious to find out if I should update it or not.

Of course, the general answer is, if you have to ask, you don't need it. :p

I just added the second stick a couple days ago so haven't really exercised it much. Oddly the thing I noticed that has speeded up is the computer finding the bluetooth mouse and loading the driver for it. The only explanation I can come up with (and it is weak to be sure) is that going from one stick to two sticks, regardless of size, speeds up access time. The downfall of this thought of course is "how much memory does a mouse driver need?" But loading really has sped up since installing the memory.

I do. An extra four gigs of RAM lets me run another virtual machine, plus use about a gig for a tmpfs device to help speed up project builds.

Will most people? Probably not. If you're using Photoshop or you're doing some software dev., yeah. But most other tasks don't justify the cost IMHO.

If my x220 says it comes with 4gb, should i buy just one more 4gb stick?

Depends on if it came in a 2x2GB or a 1x4GB configuration. IIRC both were/are an option for the X220.

If it comes with one module then there isn't any harm putting another one in given how cheap they're nowadays, not to mention the performance benefits of having a Dual Channel memory setup as well.
