For some reason, during my x220 order from a couple of months ago, Bluetooth was not selected and hence not part of the order.

I've chatted online with a rep and they told me that I can't buy and install the module myself.

Can anyone tell me if this is true? If not, what's the part # for the Bluetooth (3.0) module for x220?

    Thanks much!

EDIT: Found this thread after a google search http://forum.notebookreview.com/lenovo-ibm/582090-can-i-add-bluetooth-module-x220.html

you can't buy the module from Lenovo, but you can get them from IBM parts.

    Which country are you in?

    USA, Boston area.

I googled the part number listed on the other thread - 60Y3275, and I don't see anything less than $105+s&h. That's just ridiculous..

Why not just buy a USB dongle for $10?

Its really easy i paid like 15$ shipped for the module. You will need a new bezel if you want to see the light, at least thats how my T61 was like. A dongle is ok but i think having it wired with the atenna you get better reception. I think!

Yeah.. I read somewhere that the dongle sucked too much power, but that may be untrue. But it might be the way to go.

There's no place that carries the BC3.0 daughter card for $15.. but I did consider going to just the 2.1+edr.. but now that you mention the antenna, I'm curious if there is an extra connection to the module. I'll have to open up the x200 (that does have bt).. to see if there's an antenna hookup.

    Thanks.

You don't need a new bezel to see the light, you need a new sticker (plate) to replace the stock one with. These are usually available on ebay with various configurations of WWAN/BT icons, but not yet for x220.

As to an extra antenna connector, at least on x200/x201, there isn't one. My guess is that the antenna is on the BT module itself, which is why x200/x201 have that plastic-covered hole in the cover by the left hinge for radio waves to get through. On x220 the BT module is under the (plastic) wrist pad I believe, so no need for any holes anymore.

That was very informative. And I never knew the reason for that plastic piece.. thanks!

Does anyone know if the BT2.1 FRU for the last gen thinkpads will work with the current gen thinkpads?
