IPS used to be a $50 upgrade.

    Now it's a $150 upgrade.

They jacked up the prices for all other upgrades a bit too (except wifi 1000, thats free now)

    What gives ?

maybe the exchange rate dropped too much, and Lenovo decided to increase the price to stabilize the cost and revenue?

$1.00 CAD = $1.04 US (as of right now)

Pretty sure that's not the reason :D

Perhaps they realize that they were selling it too cheap? 12.5" ultra portable business laptop that starts at 700? Sandy Bridge? Maybe it's only in Canada that the prices got jacked up because in US it is still only 50 bucks to go to the premium panel.

Ahh, probably an error then. They better fix it soon.

Last thing I want is IPS bleeding/ghosting and finding out the newer $150 ones have no issues !!!!

trying to play catch up to all of the "ghosting" IPS threads, but, from what I understand, there is nothing that can be done from the customer's point of view about this, right?

Curious as I, like multiple others, hopped on the recent deal within the last couple weeks and are awaiting my x220. Now, questioning the purchase.

Lastly, it sounds like a few people (users from Lenovo forums specifically) are receiving glossy screens. . .anyone else here?

one main reason for this purchase was/is the matte finish.

I just found that too. Why are people getting glossy screens !!!!!!

Maybe they are not and they only see it as glossy. Perhaps the matte has a slightly shinny coating.

We will just have to wait and see I guess.

Also being from Canada, when I was shopping for my laptop back in May, I noticed the IPS upgrade price on the X220 was $150 even back then. I seem to recall we get shafted on battery upgrade prices as well.

The 9 cell battery upgrade in the T and W series is $20. Otherwise, yeah, Canadian prices are higher than American ones. I remember seeing $50 for the IPS panel a couple weeks ago, and before that it was $150.

I am following the Forum closely but haven't seen a person claiming this. Could you please direct me to this post? I can tell you that at least in Europe there a no glossy IPS screens being sold.

Price for the panel stays at 50 USD on lenovo.com

The different price could have been a technological problem.

This morning, on the Canadian site, the IPS with 3x3 antenna is $50, with 2x2 is $150. Now, why would that be?
