I was under the impression that my X220 would come with an older Intel X-18M SSD.

Turns out it shipped with a new Intel 320 Series SSD.

    Woot!

What? Lenovo dare use Intel 320 Series before Intel can sort out the 8MB bug?

People still suffer from data loss due to the 8MB bug after the last firmware update: Anyone else had a repeat 8mb brick on...

X18-M are 1.8" mSATA drives which the x220 does not utilize.

I would double check on the 320 series, the 8 MB bug was a couple of months after initial shipment of the 320 series. My 320 series 160GB (purchased pretty much after it came out) has been good.

I think the newly referenced X18-M SSD's have started to come out in mSATA.

Intel has had the X18-M in 1.8" SATA for a while now download.intel.com/design/flash/nand/mainstream/322208.pdf

The manufacture date of my drive is the 31st August 2011. They obviously waited to fix the firmware issue before releasing these drives. I also noticed that my drive shipped with the latest firmware update as well.

I haven't had any issues so far with the drive and its a nice improvement performance wise on the X18-M I thought I was going to receive.

So Lenovo has been aware of the 8MB bug? I'm just curious when Intel can really fix the 8MB bug because now every single day I worry about data loss.

I have 2 320series 300gb drives and have never had an issue (updated to the latest firmware 2 days after release).

The Gen1 and Gen2 drives have had this so-called 8mb issue in the past, and I believe it is greatly overblown. I have 1 Gen1, 2 Gen2, and now 2 more Gen3 drives - all have performed flawlessly, and I wouldn't worry at all about this supposed bug.

Of course, backup of critical stuff is always a good practice but there's really nothing wrong with these drives (as is the case with the Sandforce-powered drives).

There were still scattered reports of 8MB bug failure after the update. Afaik Intel hasn't looked into those cases or publicly announced anything about that. Just to be on the safe side, continue backing up your critical files.

Those bugs only happens on 'unexpected disconnection from power source' which not likely over laptop usage.

And my two G1 80GB and one G2 have never showed those problem.

This is false. Many users have reported the bug occurring upon a BSOD or soft reboot etc. Macbook Pro seems to be more vulnerable.
