I just did a clean install on my tablet after I put in a new SSD in it. I don't want to do a recovery from the recovery disks because it automatically creates a 10GB restore partition. And also, I picked Windows 7 Home so I could save $50 as I already had Win 7 Professional.

Although I installed the ThinkVantage System Update 4.0, it still doesn't come with the original factory software pack which includes SimpleTap and mother applications.

    Where could I get those?

    Thanks

I just did the exact same thing as you. From what I've been reading the past half hour, we should have backed up C:\swtools, a folder with all those applications. Unfortunately, the clean install guide on lenovo's support site fails to mention this. Nor did I ever see mentioned the fact that you can't restore from the recovery partition, only make recovery media from it?

Ridiculous, but I'm in the process of downloading rescue and recovery and then I'll try to create backup media and restore, so I can make a copy of this "swtools" folder. I'll let you know how it goes/what happens!

I did the Back up disks as I did not have a Win 7 Professional disk. I was worried that the data would not align (going from Mechanical Harddrive to SSD, I checked with Paragon's Alignment Tool and all was okay. Have benchmarked SSD and the M4 writes and reads at proper speed.

If you download 7zip, go to your recovery partition, open the "FactoryRecovery" folder. Inside is a file named cdrivebackup.wim. Browse and extract what you need using 7zip (in this case, grab the swtools folder and start installing the exe's).

I'm going to actually restore using this and make some proper recovery CD's...will undoubtedly be useful down the road!

Ok, I spent a good deal of time last night doing all this. I followed this guide ( Mildlyhacked: Using imageX to restore a .wim image from a USB/DVD) to restore my x220 to factory state from the file mentioned in my previous post - you will have to change file names/locations obviously, and google for imagex.exe.

I then immediately created backup media. Then I backed up SWTOOLS as well, and believe I am now ready to reinstall my Windows 7 Ultimate CD. Good luck!
