Has anyone had problems with their downstream bandwidth on their x220 tablet?
I'm using the 6205 N card, and the built in ethernet jack.
I ran these tests using Speedtest.net
At work, I tested using Gigabit LAN:
Testing on a work connection, my work PC gets 150Mbps downstream, 100Mbps upstream. Control PC is running Win XP, Dev channel chrome.
Testing my x220 on the same connection (same switch, same cable), I get 0.38Mbps downstream, 100Mbps upstream. (Windows 7 64bit, Dev channel chrome, firefox, and IE all tested. Same/similar results).
At home, I have a 20M down, 4-5M up with comcast. The following tests were all done on wireless (Dlink DGL 4500 Wireless N router)
Testing on my Vaio, I get the expected 20 down, 4 up. (Win 7 64bit, dev channel chrome). (Intel 4965AGN card)
Testing on my x220t, I get .36 down, 4 up. (Win 7 64bit, dev channel chrome, firefox, IE all tested with same/similar results). (Intel 6205 N Card).
Ideas...? I'm completely stumped.
Edit:
I just decided to try some pings... seems like the connection stability on wireless is garbage..
I'm getting like 10% packet loss, roughly 80% of the pings return within ~15ms (which is the latency of my connection), and then 10% of them I'm getting like 200ms latency...
I've NEVER had any problems with this access point with any of my other computers. Its only with the x220t, which is why I suspect the problem lies with Lenovo.
For those wondering, this isn't just a benchmark statistic.. I'm able to watch 1080p streaming video (from Justin.tv) on my Vaio lag free.
On the x220t, it can't even keep up with the 720p stream. Buffering isn't even an option as its a live stream. :/

Testing on WLAN using wireshark, it seems that the X220 sends several (10 or so over a 30 second interval) RST packets back to the server.
The Vaio on the other hand doesn't. Would this be the cause..? (I don't know enough networking to make any sense of that :/) -

I am having a similar problem with my X220 and the Centrino 6250 adapter. It's a work machine, and I originally picked it up while traveling. At the time I didn't notice any issues with the wireless.
But when I got home and connected it to my home wifi router (Apple Airport Extreme) I started having a ton of issues. It would connect just fine, but the speeds and quality of connection were lousy. I constantly get DNS timeouts on routine web page queries, can't download any large files (connection times out), and services I have running (like JungleDisk and MS Communicator) are constantly dropping on/off line. At the same time, my desktop has a rock solid wireless connection to the same router, as to the other devices in our house.
I have done two factory restores and updated all the drivers from the Lenovo and Windows update websites. Nothing seems to help. My suspicion is that there 6250 just doesn't play well with the Apple router. I'm traveling again next week so I will see if the problems persist. If they do, then I'm calling Lenovo to get the adapter replaced. If not, then it's time for a new router. -
Maybe muck with some of these?

as posted on the x220 owners thread, I am having the same problem on 6205 with an N connection to my Dlink router. updated my drivers from 14.0.0.11 to 14.0.0.2 (from lenovo site and now my speeds have increased from ~100kbps to ~500kbps.
I will try looking for other drivers and maybe do a clean install if my Vertex 2 ssd fits in here. -
just popped in an ssd from my desktop, installed 14.0.0. drivers, and got ~1.0MBps download from filehippo.com
My guess is that thinkcentre is doing some kind of throttling of the WiFi.
Also, my 2.5ghz cpu is running at a constant 3.0ghz? -
I am having similar issues with a 6205...
Downloads from a server on the same lan getting only 2mb/s 30ft from ATT Uverse Wlan router.
Sony Vaio SR series gets 15-20+ mb/s in same scenario.
X220T w/ i7 fully updated (bios 1.16, drivers) from Lenovo, original image.
Combining this with the issues I experience mouse-wise involving the ultra-base, are we the beta testers? -
Good to know I'm not the only one having problems.. >.> I'll bring this up with a technician when they come to replace my mic..
Hm. I updated the drivers manually and I'm getting proper speeds now..
Guess my lesson learned was.. Lenovo's Update utility is garbage.. and we all need to manually check the lenovo support site for new downloads. :S -
Well.. was a little pointless for me to be poking at the intel drivers.. my BigFoot Networks Killer 1102N card came in the mail today.
Flashed from BIOS 1.15 to an older (hacked) 1.11, which disables the whitelisting of PCI cards, so that I could install the Killer branded card.
http://mods.myftp.org/Lenovo/ThinkPad X220/Thinkpad_X220_X220i_8duj03us_1.11_no_whitelist.zip if anyone is interested in getting their own aftermarket cards working. This was pulled from the forums at forums.mydigitallife.com. I just flashed it in, put the Killer card in, as well as installed the killer drivers. Can confirm that this works -
and how is the killer card performing? you have the 2x2 antenna?
-
Just to add that my problems with poor connections seem to be only happening when I am on my home network. So at least in my case, it is some sort of a problem with incompatibility between the 6250 card and my Apple Airport Extreme.
I sense an Apple conspiracy.... -
Messing around in the driver interface occasionally caused the GUI to completely freeze, however the card itself never stuttered.
Give me a moment now to completely murder my connection. I'm going to go queue up like 10 ubuntu torrents, and then try to stream 1080p video from youtube on my Vaio, and then do the same on my x220 (with the killer card). I'll report back about the differences.
Edit: I'm having some issues getting their bandwidth throttling working (as in the driver freezes whenever I attempt it..) but I haven't had any issues with lag streaming a 1080p youtube video. Max download speeds on my vaio only reached 700KBps downstream (in utorrent), whereas I got 2.5Mbps downstream on my X220 (maybe more seeders or whatnot..) -

This doesn't solve the LAN issue though.. I'm consistently able to get 120Mbps upstream, but like 0.5Mbps downstream.. this makes no sense. -
Check if your antennae are connected properly. My X220T with Intel 6205 came with both antennae disconnected.

Have you updated those drivers manually too? Lenovo Update blows from what I've seen... it misses numerous drivers. -

I was having the same problem with the WiFi speeds being terrible. I went into the power settings (the Windows setting, not the Power Center) and changed "Wireless Adapter Setting" under the advance settings from maximum power savings to medium power savings. WiFi is now fine.

is anyone else having an issue where wifi is significantly worse when their X220T is converted to tablet mode? anyone know what could be causing this?

Well, I just installed an intel 6200 into my x220 and got the unauthorized message. The modded bios website was seized by ICE!!!!! What a bunch of jerks.
X220 Tablet LAN/WLAN downstream bandwith is garbage?
