Has any one done this yet? I have found lots of info on the X220, but not the Tablet.

    What problems did you have?

Was it worth all the work to get it done?

Did you use the Lenovo restore disk, or a windows disk?

Was thinking about trying this next weekend. Working on getting all the info to gather that I will need.

    Thanks

I did clean install on a new drive for x220t. I used the W 7 enterprise and after the initial install, I end up with lot of devices w/o drivers. Before the install, I did copy the C:\SWTOOLS folder ( as per Lenovo Support - Windows 7 Clean Installation - ThinkPad T420, T420s, T520, W520, X220 and X220 Tablet ). Just to increase the battery life, I did reinstall lenovo's power mgt software.
Was it worth it? It is for me, but that is personal opinion. Most of the users wont care to do clean install. As a side note, make sure you install synaptics driver instead of lenovo's. I remember reading about it in this forum, and when my trackpad started acting weird, that solved the problem.

hey aax and others, after you did the clean install, how many processes are running at start up and what is your percent usage of the physical memory. For my x220t, it is running 112 processes and using around 35-40% of physical memory without a clean install. These numbers are really bothersome. Are these numbers even normal for windows 7? I've been using Windows xp and the numbers are significantly lower at start up.

Another question, sorry for being a newbie, but will these high numbers impact the battery life of x220t?

By the way, why are there so many posts about the x220t in the notebook forum and not the tablet forum. I've been noticing that the discussing for the x220t in the tablet forum is slowly dying. kinda sad :(

I used the "Legal windows 7 download links" for my clean install of Win 7 professional and it worked great. I had to do a clean install to get the OS onto my mSATA drive.

I haven't had any issues. I did make a recovery disk before wiping it clean, but I didn't even use it... I downloaded the Intel wireless and lenovo updates and drivers thing onto a flash drive prior to reinstalling the OS, and just installed those immediately after. The Lenovo updates finds all the drivers you need from the original boxing.

No idea if the battery life has been impacted, since I didn't use it before I did the clean install. I also haven't really had a chance to continually use the machine to test how long the battery lasts (I bought it for long classroom times and library usage, but alas it's still summertime :) )

Thanks for the pointers emjayisme. That sounds like a breeze. At startup, how many processes is your computer running and what is the percent physical memory usage?

sure. It takes about 46 seconds to boot up completely from a finger swipe start that powers it on to the desktop. It has 101 processes and uses 30% physical memory at startup, which seems pretty similar to your numbers.

    Hope this helps!

Thanks man. I also have one more question-ish... :D I ordered my x220t from provantage.com, which comes with the Intel vPro processor. I guess this and some other lines were designed with business management in mind. So they include software like "Intel Identity protection" and "Intel Management and Security Status". I don't think I will use this. Plus, when I check my status, it said that I am not enroll in either one. So the question is, Did you reinstall any of these software after your clean install? Does any of these software have any value if I am not in any type of business environment? If you do not have the vPro can someone help me out? TIA

I also got my tablet with the vPro processor, and I have the Intel identity management and security status. I have no need for it as well, but unfortunately it did reinstall that software I think when I updated all the other drivers. I didn't look for it specifically so there may have been the option to not download it.

However, it seems easy to uninstall straight from the control panel add/delete program thing. I actually just uninstalled it because of your post! :)

I just completed the fresh install.

I used Acronis to assist with going back if I decided i wanted to.

I used the legal window method i linked to earlier.

on the fresh clean window I had about 37 processes

after loading all the drivers in to get the the window device manager to be happy I ended with 87 processes.

It does seem to boot a bit quicker, although I never did time it before.

    problems I had

    1. Was getting windows reactivated.
    2. The software in the guide to to help with the license to not work for me.
    3. Make sure you know which drivers are for your WIFI or ETHERNET connection.
