    Hi,

I have a 320GB SATA in my X220 Tablet. I have enctypted the whole disk drive (no compromise there!) and the wakeup from hibernate is terrible slow; slower than under my 2003 WinXP laptop (takes up to 20 minutes until system is useable).

Therefore (and for performance in general, battery life and noise) I want to replace the harddisk with an SSD.

Are there any special requirements regarding the X220 tablet?
Anyone has a good, cheap recommendation?

    Thanks,
    divB

    7mm SATA, but that's it.

If you want to keep your mechanical HDD as well, you can also get an mSATA SSD.

7mm, that's really all? Nice. Interface (3 vs. 6 GBs) does not matter?
Has mSATA any disadvantages? The system could also be stored on the mSATA then? (price would be roughly twice, 120 EUR for 120GB, 140 EUR for 256GB).

Do you have by any chance experience in combination with full disk encryption?
I heard there are several issues regarding wear levelling, controller types etc. Also, TrueCrypt, DiskCryptor, BitLocker?

    Thanks,

7mm is all. 3Gb/s and 6Gb/s will both work. The disadvantage of the mSATA drive is, as you have seen, the higher cost per GB. Otherwise it should work just like a regular SSD.

I don't have any experience with encryption, but wear leveling is definitely not a concern; that sort of thing is all taken care of internally. All the current-gen controllers are more or less of comparable performance these days too.

Do You consider this option a good "solution" or could it be better replace the hdd with a "standard" ssd reserving the msata slot for a future (ssd) upgrade ?
