WHAT????!!! No surprise as the HDMI group is a for profit company, and displayport is royalty free. I support displayport all the way, even more so now. I no longer support HDMI.

Hello. I also have a x220 and I am using a DP to HDMI adapter that worked perfectly with my dell e6400 to send audio to my panasonic tv. Now there is no hdmi audio port in sound settings and this is with latest intel or lenovo drivers. If I uninstall intel audio drivers I get 4 disconected HDMI devices that I can not select to output to.
    Thanks.

Can you activate Full RGB Range (0-255) after installation of the adapter between DP and HDMI ?

Will try when I receive a new adaptar from Delock. It says on their site that it supports audio. By the way: that version of DP does the x220 have?

I got the SIIG DP to HDMI adapter from Frys. Model: CB-DP0062-S1
It works good and carries video and audio to my Samsung LN46C750.
I also got SIIG's USB soundwave 7.1 adapter to add an optical out to my X220. No problem setting X220 to send video out on HDMI with audio out on optical. Tested with MPC Home Cinema and XBMC. Source was 1080p mkv with DTS audio.
One note on the usb soundwave, you must download the updated soundwave driver from SIIG's website to enable 5.1 sound with DD/DTS passthrough. Otherwise, you stuck in Stereo.

Just because your adapter works now for audio doesn't mean Lenovo won't break it later.

Forgive me for being a little sensitive about the subject but I've been stung badly by Lenovo using a Displayport to HDMI adapter (the one that Monoprice sells) to get audio out on my T410. I know that adapter passes audio - because it DID work prior to Lenovo issuing new display drivers for the NVidia graphics. So what do display adapter drivers have to with audio support in your DP/HDMI adapter? Beats me, but that is what broke audio support on my T410 (and broke it for many others as well). I never could get it working again and Lenovo simply told us to buy the one adapter they had tested that worked (and wasn't even available for sale outside of the US).

And now I'm about to buy a new T420 and potentially deal with this issue again. I wish Displayport had never been invented.

Bear with me. Can you activate full RGB Range(0-255) when the adpter between Displayport and HDMI is connected ?

Quote from Intel employees' recent comments on the cable adapter

    1. allan_intel

GMA false digital audio signal over...

An Intel graphics controller does not support any type of converters or video adapters, you may want to try using a video cable with both connectors of same type.

    2. Dago_Intel

DisplayPort to HDMI doesn't work on...

    Hello,

The usage of video cable adapters is not supported with an Intel graphics controller, this could be the reason of your issue.

I recommend using straight video cables, such HDMI to HDMI or Display port to Display port and check if there is any customized driver available for your computer model.

    Thanks, Dago.
    ----------------------------------------------------------------------

I am speechless. As the X220 User, the external monitor choice is limited to Displayport only.

You will find loss of color accuracy after the calibration.

What concern me most is the calibration quality with my own spectrometer ( Colormunki)

Neither Nvidia nor AMD platforms have to deal with such problems.

That is why I am still waiting for my new EIZO Monitors with displayport.

Full RGB Range is already set in the options. And the bottomline is that have you enabled full rgb range without experiencing BTB/WTW ?

I tried this with a 22" Vizio TV/Monitor. There was: Default, Limited, and Full available from the dropdown menu. Seemed to work. I could choose "Full" or the other two available options without seeing any errors. Didn't see much change - if any in the display. I am using the Monoprice DisplayPort to HDMI adapter linked to earlier in this thread.

I can enable full range on my DP to HDMI adaptor connected Panasonic plasma. It makes a difference to the display (brighter image).

However out of "Power Save", It always falls back to refresh rate 59Hz and limited color range, instead of 60Hz and Full range.

Also I feel xvYCC setting made a positive difference but sometimes also fail to survive reboot/power save.

I wonder if this is a limitation/bug of the Intel Display driver?

Tried updating to video driver 8.15.10.2418, but I suffer same problems as above.

Not to revive too old a thread, but I'm not able to get audio from my X220 connected to a Sony Bravia XBR2.

I'm using the very same Monoprice DP -> HDMI adapter that many are using along with Monoprice high speed HDMI cables.

When I check my sound properties, I only see the Conexant speaker; regardless if the TV is connected or not. Are you guys seeing anything else?

As a side note, I also have Intel WiDi installed, not sure if that would make a difference...

    Update #1:
    ------------

I uninstalled Intel WiDi and the latest Intel video Drivers, and it still didn't work. I just don't seem to see the TV speakers in sound properties. I've tried two different HDMI cables now, so it can't be the cables.

I've tried with Intel drivers 8.15.10.2418 AND with the newer Intel driver that's available on the Intel site that needs to be manually installed... Still no audio.

For those of you who have audio out with the Monoprice adapter, what Intel drivers are you using?

I had pretty much the same problem. Tried a few different adapters and none worked. Apparently Intel graphics have trouble understanding that some TV's can handle audio (usually old ones). For me it worked with several other TV's I tested, and it worked under Ubuntu but I could not get it to work in W7.

What I did was to run the audio separately. Not ideal but it works for now. My TV is so old anyway so I was already looking for a new one.

Well that's a real disappointment. The XBR2 was released in 2005, so it's only 5yrs old. Still looks as good as the day I bought it and I have no intention of getting another TV anytime soon.

This is a real bummer. Such an oversight on Intel's part.

I have the same problem. Audio works fine in linux, but not at all in windows 7. Usually it's the other way around.
