Hello,
I am looking at purchasing an X220T and there are several different options for wifi. I was wondering if anyone actually bothered paying an extra $40 for wifi or whether this was just a gimick to get more money from you. Do any of you have experience with the different wifi options or could point me towards some reviews?

Tsunade_Hime such bacon. wow
Usually Lenovo branded ones are Realtek and drivers can sometimes be a pain. I have always preferred Intel WLAN cards, they for me have been the most stable and fastest. Also Intel drivers are very good. And Lenovo hardly makes any profit selling them at time of purchase plus you get Lenovo warranty on that part.

Get the Intel Centrino 6300 Ultimate N option! I guess the Intel Centrino 6205 Advanced N option is sufficient enough but considering it's a newer "low-cost" model and I have never used it before I can't say how it should preform.
But the Intel Centrino 5300 and 6300 have been some of the more robust and most stable wireless cards the past years and compared to Realtek and Broadcom they are far superior when it comes to both performance and stability. -
I can only get the 6205 because the 6300 requires a 3x3 antenna, which stops me from having a camera in the X220T. But thanks for the recommendations!

How come a 3x3 antenna solution prevents for having a webcam?

Isn't the 6205 and 6300 the same 6k line from intel? So shouldn't their performance be similar? No point in spending extra money for moot. Most users won't even hit up to 300 Mbps... much less 450. (Hell most users don't even have compatible 450 routers.. they're all using their old 54Mbps Wireless G routers).
Also, the 3x3 prevents the webcam because there simply isn't enough space in the screen casing to put a 3rd antenna and a webcam. -

Do any of the Intel options below prohibit the installation of an mSATA SSD? This is my first ThinkPad so...
12.5" Premium HD (1366x768) LED Backlit Display, Mobile Broadband Ready, 2x2 Antenna
- Intel Centrino Wireless-N 1000
- ThinkPad b/g/n
- Intel Centrino Advanced-N 6205 (2x2 AGN)
- Intel Centrino Advanced-N + WiMAX 6250
-
-
If you are interested in using Intel's Wireless Display (2.0), you'll need either:
Intel Wireless-N 1000
Intel Centrino Advanced-N 6205 (2x2 AGN)
Intel Centrino Advanced-N + WiMAX 6250
I ended up getting the 6205 because:
- I wanted to have a webcam so I couldn't do 3x3
- I didn't care for having built-in broadband (WiMAX)
- 2x2 antenna sounded good at the time. Not sure how much it'll help!
