I had my laptop off the charger for an extended period of time today and it went down to 7% before I connected it to a charger. I'm using the laptop now and I just noticed the widget says it's plugged in and at 0%. Here's what I see in power manager (initially it said battery health was good, it just switched to the fully discharged message)

Here's what I see in power manager:

Anyone know if the battery, which was working fine without a significant amount of cell degredation, went kaput? Is there any way I can troubleshoot this without buying a new battery?

Did you try recalibrating the battery?

I recalibrated the battery about 2-3 weeks ago without issue, it actually regained some capacity. I don't have time to do anything today because of presentations I need to give/attend, but I'm going to let it sit and charge tomorrow and if that does nothing, I'll try a calibration.

I don't like the temp of -273 degrees, and would tend to believe that the controller chip went haywire.

Does the machine instantly shut off if you pull out the power cord?

I didn't have the heart to try since I have an SSD, but I assume it would have.

I was able to use another computer today so I left it powered off and plugged into a 90w adapter. Was able to see the orange light come on before I left, and when I came back around 2-3 hours later it was reporting a 96% charge. Hope that's the last time I see this, and I really wonder what happened.

ajkula66, it now displays a much more ideal temperature of 23 degrees. :)

I'd be browsing NewEgg for a nice deal on a refurb Lenovo battery...they do get them on occasion...just in case.

Are you sure you haven't previously left that X220 in the city morgue's freezer...
