hi guys. just got x220 with i7 usb 3.0 and 160gb ssd. i'd like to ask two questions that kinda puzzles me.

    1. the LED indicator lights (located right above PrtSc and ScrLk keys) are shockingly dim, at least compare to my other thinkpads. i can barely make out the lights when the lights are on. is it supposed to be this way? whether on battery or on AC doesn't seem to make a difference.

    2. the SSD came with no hard disk caddy. it was just a bare drive with 4 screws in place, then it had 2 pieces of plastic rail, rather than the ones made with rubber-like material. it's SSD so it probably won't matter much but the way it was shipped in this setup seems like it offers no protection against vibration and shocks. is it supposed to be shipped that way?

just a bit nervous about those two points because i got a refurb from the lenovo outlet and i'd like to correct the problems early on, if there's any.

    thanks!

    1. My one is slightly dim too.

    2. Well SSD is solid state drive, so shocks and vibration are less of a concern for these devices.

Same here, my lights are pretty dim too. You can still make them out, but they could be brighter.

Then again, given the small size of the X220 screen, if the lights were brighter, then you would notice them during normal work as your eyes will see them in your peripheral vision.

    Same as mine.

I would assume the SSD would be fine with the plastic rail. But I think Lenovo should have done a better job with those indicator lights. One of my classmates has a Thinkpad and I could spot his indicator light are on from 20 feet away, but I barely can figure if my x220's indicators are working or not 1 feet away from me.

i think Europe has a new standard on how much power a laptop would draw when it is in hibernation mode. So the dimness of these LED maybe the result of having to comply with the new Euro standards.
