I'm looking for an ultraportable laptop right now and considering the Lenovo X220 and Toshiba R835.

I know the premium screen on the X220 is IPS panel, but does anyone know what kind of panel they use for the non-premium screens? How's the quality and viewing angle of the non-premium screens used on X220?

its a very average TN panel. last time i checked the IPS upgrade was 50 bucks, not an unreasonable amount

I found a good deal for X220 with i5 2410M on eBay, it's definitely cheaper compared to buying from Lenovo+sales tax, but it doesn't have the IPS screen....

how much is it? with the coupon that expires today (maybe already gone) you can get a pretty fully loaded X220 for $880 (core i7+ips)

The eBay price is $880 and 10% eBay bucks(expires today), I already checked Lenovo site and the doorbuster coupon for X220 already reached the use limit... :(
$880 for X220 with Core i7+IPS is a steal, although I probably won't get the i7 cause don't need it lol.

Any idea how often Lenovo have coupons for X220?

I will wait a few weeks and see if I can get a good deal on the X220 then, if not the Toshiba R835 is priced at $800 anyways.

Yea I kind of remember they had a 40% coupon like last week or so, hopefully they will have another coupon for the X220 soon.

BTW do you know if there's any size differences between the 6-cell and 9-cell thinkpad batteries?

oh-forgot to mention, you can always try calling up lenovo and if seeing if they'll discount for you. for enterprise grade computers its rare to pay list price

if i recall correctly, the 9 cell sticks out an inch at the back, but size isnt too much an issue- weight is. besides the 6 cell already gets you 6 hours of heavy use
