I bought the x220 with the core i3 and 2gb of ram, installed the intel 310 40GB MSATA and an extra 2gb stick of ram and did a clean install of windows 7 64bit using the instructions to have the user folder in the HDD and not the SSD (the instructions that use an unattend.xml file during installation) Everyhting works fine except the computer fails to resume from sleep about half the time. When it fails the bluetooth light will be on, but both the wireless and hdd lights will be off and the screen will be black and nothing will bring the computer back until I force a shutdown by longpressing the power button. Im running BIOS version 1.17. I appreciate if anyone has any ideas about how to fix this.

I had this problem with the original BIOS version 1.04 but not with a later BIOS version. I think I am currently on BIOS version 1.15 (in Fedora Linux atm and can't check).

EDIT: Make sure Power Manager and your other drivers are up-to-date.

I just had the same problem. I didn't even know how to get it shutdown, but luckily I had access to another computer to do a search and find your post - thanks! I'll have to check my BIOS I guess. But I hope that someone else provides some input also.
