For my old Dell M1330, I bought a lappymat microfibre protector that I kept in between the keyboard and display while transporting the laptop. This prevented the keyboard/palmrest to damage the screen in the event that pressure was placed on the laptop.

Is this necessary on the X220? If so, can anybody suggest a good place to buy? Lappymats seem to be gone as their website has recently stopped working.

    Thanks!

I don't really think it's necessary on the X220. If you look carefully, you will notice that there is a small distance between the Display and the Keyboard, when the Lid is closed. Even when you apply pressure on the back of the Screen, it doesn't seem to touch the Keyboard at all. Instead, the Clamshell Design (or what's left of it) presses against the Plamrest. This will cause small dots to appear on it, however, it prevents the Display form getting damaged while closed.

    Agree with 600x.

When I was on a trip with my x120e, the trackpoint prevent damages of tons of random stuff pressing against the laptap on my big backpack. It does seem to protect the laptop fairly well, however you do get mark after. Somewhat annoy to clear, but it does the job done.

Thanks for the replies! I do think this is less of any issue on the X220 than my old Dell, as you say, but I would still rather have something there. I went ahead and purchased a 12" ShaggyMac for about $12 plus shipping - should do the trick!

Hope you'll enjoy it as I do. One more good thing about that protector is that it also works great as a cleaning cloth for the screen.

if you need crush proof protection, look at Pelican cases, series 1085 are good for x220t, a smaller one might be enough for a regulat x220
