For some reason the X220 is up on the UK site, but not yet on the US site

Looks promising, IPS upgrade only 38 pounds (55 dollars)!

EDIT: It's available on .de (germany) as well

Upgrades cost less than they do here but the base price is 50% higher; VAT is really ridiculous.

    Bluetooth standard. Nice.
Win Pro 64 bit standard. Nice.
No 4cell battery offered. I hope they do that here too so we don't have to pay to upgrade to the 6cell.

3yr Depot is standard in the UK.

They only just added 3 year depot service as standard in the UK, previously regardless of what system you bought you only had 1 year collect and return service. It's a welcome change considering competitors such as Dell and HP were doing 3 years standard on their mainstream systems for a while.

I take the "Premium HD" option on the X220 is the IPS screen, seems rather vague the description.

Standard 320gb hdd. That'd be nice too.

They've been calling IPS, Premium HD in all documents. The avg consumer won't have a clue what IPS means, but they should've at least thrown it in next to 'Premium HD" for buyers who care about what screen they get but don't check forums. They do call FHD as that for 15" models though.

I've seen: 'IPS', 'HD+', 'Premium' and 'Wideview' (or any combination of these) as a way to describe the use of an IPS panel..

That, and the fact that different types of SKU codes are used (4287 CTO, 4287-2UU or something like NYG37MH) in the tabook, Lenovo site and different shops in Europe probably makes it worthwhile to contact a seller first (and get the exact specifications in writing) before ordering anywhere.

Still say pricing of X220 on the Lenovo UK site seems reasonable, X220 4287 CTO/2UU:
provantage.com $1082, Lenovo UK $1395 (£854) considering VAT in Europe. At least importing one doesn't make a huge difference anymore.

Too bad we don't have coupons in Europe..

I cannot find it on the german shop.

Btw.: "HD+" is not referring to a screen-type, but to a resolution (higher than HD - 1360x786). For 16:9 HD+ would be 1600x900

Premium HD is what they call it in all the docs including the hardware service manual. IPS and Wideview are there in the description, but you only see this in a product doc like tabook. Avg buyer sees 'Premium HD.' I've only seen IPS being used on the main for Lenovo Japan. Definitely not HD+ since the res is HD.

This is interesting and I wonder if Lenovo US will this.. standard equipment varies between the X220i and X220:

    X220i vs. X220:

    Win Home vs. Win Pro
    250gb vs. 320gb
    4-cell vs. 6-cell

Maybe Lenovo knows more people will order the 6 cell battery, so they had more of them made, thus the cost is lower.

As opposed to 4 cell, they don't have that many so they weren't able to get a lower price from the manufacturer.

From their site's price perspective, wouldn't you stick with the 6 cell? Why pay for money for a smaller battery.

    Just my guess...
    :p

You are probably right. Or, they will leave the factory with a 6cell and replacing the 6cell with a 4cell is an extra operation and thus more expensive?

I got the 6-cell and it raises the back of the X220 some (roughly 1/4" by eyeball). I could see where the 4-cell could be desirable if laptop thickness is an issue.

    There's a 10% coupon currently valid for the UK site : EASTERSALE2011 .

I am in France and ordering it through the UK CTO seems like a good option (would need a reliable and not too pricey UK proxy though).

You're right! I didn't see this coupon code at all and it works! Looks like I be buying the T420 sooner rather than later.

Anyone tell me the difference between the 2x2 or 3x3 antenna, or is this one of those things where, if I don't know the difference, it shouldn't worry me? It's 3 channels, I understand, which is more advanced, but does it matter?

Also note that opting for a 3x3 antenna is incompatible with the webcam.
