    Hi Guys,

I'm new to forum, so...HI to everyone here. I purchased a thinkpad x220 tablet 2 months ago and so far I like it. However, couple days ago i download HWmonitor program to monitor my laptop temperature and realized that it said my CPU idle temp (after start the system and let it sit for awhile with firefox on for example) are around 40-45C and up to around 50C under normal working (surfing web, skype, excel etc...). I wonder if those temps are ok. When I just newly start the system up, the temp are around 35-39C.

Thanks for all the answer, i truthly appreciate it

    Tuan

    Thanks commander Wolf

Yes, My x220 one has the core i5 sandy bridge one (I forgot to mention in the previous post). I was kindda surprised because i thought x220 run coolest among laptop right now. I also have a t-400 thinkpad one and it use core-duo vpro, the normal temp and newly start up temp only around 26-30C.

Does that mean core i5 thinkpad laptop run hotter than their core duo series?

Overall power consumption figures at a platform level are lower for SB systems than Arrandale or Penryn, but I suspect the integrated GPU, IMC, etc lead to more of that total platform power being dissipated through the CPU die, leading to higher temperatures there.

I always install a fresh copy of Windows on my machines, with the drivers I deem as necessary, so you could say that I have my own load set. On my X200, the idle CPU temps are in the low to mid 30s. On my X220, they are in the mid to high 40s. The fan noise are similar, so I assume the engineers took the elevated CPU temperatures into design consideration.

My idle temps are like 36-39C, I mostly boot up tpfancontrol on 3. My X220 Tablet specs are in my signature.

@Tsunade_Hime: What is tpfancontrol and how does that work on x220t? I never heard about it before...

tpfancontrol is 3rd party software that can manually control the fan speed. It's free and only works on Lenovo and IBM's Think branded products. I always have manual fan control on, and set it between 1-2 for completely idle use.
