I am in the market to upgrade HDD Lenovo X220. I am looking for reliability and problem free over top level performance. I know the intel 320 has a pretty good reputation for quality. I have intel 320 in macbook pro sata II controller working flawlessly after 4 months. Is it to soon to rubber stamp intel 520 as good to go even though they claim extra year in testing? Computer mostly used for mobility general stuff nothing intense like video editing or photoshop I use macbook pro 17'' i5 for that stuff. Basically Email, Web Development, Music, Internet, Movies, NetFlix etc. FYI I have $55 gift card Best Buy + they have intel 320 in stock.

The 520 offers faster transfer rates, but you will probably only notice the difference if you are streaming big quantities of data. It's the quick access times that give SSDs their performance boost in most situations. I haven't felt the urge to upgrade my 320 to anything faster.

320 is enough for most usage scenarios. Not worth the price premium.

That's true right this second but Intel has a looming problem. Samsung is getting good reviews on the 830 Series and they are much more affordable. That's going to put pressure on the Intel 520 Series which then put more pressure on the Intel 320 Series.

In the end the consumer wins but I wouldn't expect the 520 Series premium to last very long. If they gather dust while the Samsungs fy off the shelves, something will have to give.

The premium for the 520 should go down soon enough, but I will always be willing to pay an extra $10-$15 for Intel's validation and SSD software tools.

But, I'm not really in the market for SSDs anymore (bought three of them last year, all Intel drives). I might get one last 120GB drive for my desktop when I have more money.

Order intel 520 120 GB same price as intel 320 120 GB.
