Seems the price doesn't change regardless of screen type. I also prefer having touch capabilities.

Is "gorilla glass" supposed to imply that it's gorilla proof? I'd really like to see how durable it really is.

This is great news! The multitouch screen supposedly kicks back a lot of reflections, and the multitouch layer adds a grainy film to the display. I'm definitely going for the Gorilla Glass option.

I'll be very interested to hear if the "Outdoor"/"Gorilla Glass" screen is less grainy. Hopefully someone will be able to make a direct side by side comparison.

Pick up a number of new smartphones, and you'll find it. For being as thin as it is, it's pretty neat stuff.

    CORNING® GORILLA® GLASS -Featured Products

My Droid 2 has it. I'm not saying I couldn't damage it if I made a deliberate attempt, but it's reasonably tough. The emphasis of Gorilla Glass is on strength in a thin package.

This is also a topoic of interest for me! I remember having seen pics that compared the X200t with outdoor and multitouch screens. The multitouch was dimmer. But what does actually "grainy" means? Is it that we kind of see a grid on the display or just that color accuracy is not the same? Does graininess means eye strain??

Where did you see this screen comparison? i've been looking all over the net for one and couldn't find it. I have the multitouch version on order. From the reviews i've found, they all said the multitouch screen looks fabulous.

Good to see the outdoor display was just delayed and not discontinued. Once I confirm my funds I will buy one. :) Very excited getting a new laptop, always get itchy for a new one after 2 1/2 years.

    Check this youtube video:
YouTube - X200 Tablet - Outdoor Display vs. Multitouch Display

I wonder whether this is real: when the brightness is set t 0 on both screens, the outdoor version was still very bright...

Note that the outdoor seems pretty reflective too. I don't know whether the X200T had gorilla glass for outdoor versions though. Anyway there is a difference here. Can anybody confirm that both X200T Multitouch and outdoor are actually IPS?

The brightness still seems good on the Multitouch. I've never seen one myself but I'm concerned by the graininess. I don't actually understand what that means exactly. I just don't want a very glossy screen with a visible grid.

that's the X200t. Don't think you should use that as comparison for the X220T. Can be completely different.

Guys, i am so upset and sad. Just chat with a rep and he said that the outdoor screen IS NOT the gorilla one! Be careful if you want gorilla. I guess i just keep waiting.
One of the reason i want the gorilla is because i think i will be tougher. I have a wet hand that i know i will clean the screen alot. So i just dont know if the multitouch is ok with that. I really want a tablet know.

One more thing, the rep also said the gorilla option will most likely not available until the end of summer. Sorry my bad English. So if you have to choose between the multi-touch and the outdoor display, what would you choose? I dont know if i really need the touch!

The outdoor screen is better than nothing I suppose.
    Can anyone else confirm this?
Has Lenovo released a new tabook to reflect this? All the topseller codes with outdoor+gorilla glass are now probably going to be delayed a few months. Im hoping they put some similar ones out for the outdoor display.

It's certainly not that bright on 0 brightness. It's pretty dim in the well lit room if you turn the brigthness all the way down. (I find it just right in the very dark environment, however.)

In the second message in this thread on the Lenovo website, a Lenovo Rep is quoted as saying that Outdoor = Gorilla Glass. Not sure who is right, but we now have conflicting claims - both supposedly from Lenovo Reps.

"Gorilla Glass Now Available to Order? - Lenovo Community

Sounds like Lenovo needs to get their "stuff" together!

It really sounds like the Lenovo folks don't have a clue. Over on the Lenovo.com Forums it is back and forth. One Rep says Outdoor is Gorilla, another says it is not and another says it is.

I wonder who knows for sure!

People might refer to YouTube - Lenovo X220 IPS "Premium" vs X201 Tablet Outdoor (Displayvergleich) which although it shows the X220 IPS vs X201T Outdoor, it might give an impression of the difference in display between the default and Outdoor option.

Note though that the video is in German, and the quality isn't THAT good. Pay special attention to the differences between 3m50s and 4m50s.

guys... looking at the multitouch screen like the one on the bottom from this review by tabletpcreview.com, I can't stop but wonder: Who would want the multitouch one?! Look at how hazy this is, very low contrast because of reflection. I'll stick to my plan to get my hands on the gorilla glass version!

That's because the tabletpcreview.com did a super noobish craptistic review (edit: Okay, the review was okay, but I still blame the photographer). I'm sure my sony c905a phone can take a much better picture than that. Look how bright the black plastics are in that picture. Look at youtube reviews for x220t. It's just the skill of the photographer that suck in tabletpcreview. Doesn't know how to use aperture control or shutter speed control?

Any updates on the Gorilla glass and not-Gorilla glass for Outdoor screen?

If I wanted an X220 Tablet with a non-hazy touch screen (does not have to be multi-touch) would that be the one everyone is calling Gorilla? Like on the iPad ... clear?

basically, yes. The gorilla glass one will be a "glossy" one, far less scatter light!
How good it really is in the end... nobody can tell, because basically nobody has the unit yet and all the review units were multitouch ones, hence more "haze"/scattered light.

all one can tell from the information lenovo has given us is that there are two screen options for each, the x220 and the x220 tablet.

    x220:
    • normal TN-display
    • IPS display with better viewing angle and color accuracy

    x220 tablet:
    • IPS Multitouch + pen input
    • IPS pen only - outdoor viewable with gorilla glass

Option #1 (multitouch) is slowly becoming available. Option #2, gorilla glass/outdoor viewable is nowhere to be found. I have to say, I'm a bit disappointed by the information flow of lenovo. I expect them to be more forthcoming towards future customers. If, for instance, japanese factories can't deliver at this time (totally understandably), then lenovo should just say so and give their best guess at availability. But no... nothing, last thing I heard was a lenovo video stating, that the machines (actually the outdoor viewable one) will become available mid april. I guess we agree that didn't happen, not even close..... Not a very trustworthy behavior.

The outdoor viewable screen is listed on the Lenovo US website and no delay is mentioned.
I have ordered an X220T with an outdoor display, I will let you know if I hear anything regarding availability.

thanks... still can't order a single version of the x220 tablet on the german lenovo site... ridiculous. Some dealers have the multitouch version, but nobody does even have a possible delivery date for the outdoor version. Since I can't even find a single review regarding the outdoor option on the internet, it feels like that version is just a rumor :p

Guys, when your Gorilla ships please post a review about screen quality, bleeding if any, brightness etc.

Randfree, as far as I understood your answer, every outdoor screen on X220T is guaranteed to have the Gorilla glass. This is what I wanted to confirm. Danke schön.

honestly... I haven't seen any forum post, review or video of the outdoor screen besides the one youtube video from lenovo.

Even if the factory in Japan was destroyed, they should at least inform the waiting crowd. I'll most likely get a Fujitsu T901 now instead.

I am also getting tired of this wait for X220T outdoor vaporware. They need to rename it to X220V to avoid confusing people. Their sales personnel also appears to be clueless regarding availability of those screens.

I just took the first look at T901 and it appears to be OK. Pretty much the only knock on it is the crappy look with the white/silver surface. Do you have any information or video reviews of its outdoor screen? How does it compare to the supposed screen of X220V?

Well... I rely on T900 reviews and some tablet expert experience in my circle of friends and also on the net.
Check out these threads for instance:

    T901, 1st impressions
    T901 or X220t

and/or check out this video - however good the lenovo would be, this is good enough for me.

Honestly though, since nobody including reviewers has had their hands on the x220t outdoor variant, nobody is able to tell if it would be comparable to the x200t outdoor one i.e.
As for the T901, it has the same screen the T900 did. You can find quite a bit of opinions about that and most say it is usable in the dual digitizer version. The pen only version (with outdoor coating)... well "better" one would think, but I don't know much more.
Since having the ability to use touch interface is interesting of course and since pretty much all users of the T900 screen claim it to be usable outdoors I am willing to believe that

Overall the Fujitsu looks very solid, I especially like the battery option and the 16:10 screen over what lenovo offers.
After all this waiting, my decision is quite clear now.

The last time I checked, my outdoor display X220T was scheduled to arrive on the 19th of June. If I don't see anybody getting their outdoor display X220T when this date approaches and/or I get my date pushed too far I will probably cancel the order.
On the Lenovo forums they have indicated that Lenovo will receive the screens around June 5th and start shipping June 10th so Im hopeful they have resolved the screen bottleneck in their production line.
