I received the X230 I bought online...it's missing a few features that were advertised.

The seller said it had the 6205 card and Bluetooth. Of course the card is a basic a/b/g/n and there's no bluetoth.

Instead of opening a case and sending it back, etc, I'm just going to by the parts and install myself. eBay is showing these:

    6205 card:

    Intel 6205 Advanced N Dual Band 2 4GHz 5GHz 62205ANHMW Wireless Card 5 GHz | eBay

    Bluetooth (4.0?) daughter card:

    Bluetooth Daughter Card 60Y3305 60Y3303 for Lenovo ThinkPad T530 T430 X230I X230 | eBay

I know there is a certain degree of risk with non "whitelisted" parts, but at the asking prices, I'm willing to gamble.

Are these all I need? I think the wifi card is straightforward, but the bluetooth card is new to me. Can I just pop them into the system, reboot, and I'm off?

    Thanks.

The BT seems to be a genuine Lenovo part, so that should work fine... I can almost guarantee that the generic 6205 won't work, though.

And yes, you should just be able to install the BT card and go on your way. It may need additional drivers, but that should be it.

Thanks. Where's the best place to buy a fully compatible, whitelisted 6205 wifi card? eBay is always a gamble...

This is driving me crazy. How does one get a genuine Lenovo 6205 card?? I am trying to find the FRU and Lenovo's site isn't much help. These are the FRUs for the X230...and none specify the 6205. Help.

Ok, so I'm on a mission to build this thing up to a maxed out X230. It doesn't have a fingerprint reader...I found the finger casing on eBay, but not the reader.

Any ideas on this? It's not a critical addition, but once I find a real 6205 card that's whitelisted (where?) and the fingerprint palmrest/reader, I'll have all the options.

Most concerned about finding a compatible wifi card though. Thanks.

I saw the palmrest with the reader on eBay. It's expensive, though, like $40 shipped.

I saw genuine Lenovo 6205s on eBay too. Just make sure you get one with the Lenovo FRU on it. Those should all be genuine; I don't think anyone fakes those if that's your concern.

Thanks. Not to be annoying, but do you have a link/auction ID to the wireless card? My searches have come up with all generic 6205's. Also, the fingerprint auctions are only for the wristplate...I don't see the actual reader included (they say "hole for reader") in the auction.

The only card that has a FRU printed on it is the 6300...which I don't believe will work since I have a webcam:

Can I just connect two wires to it and leave the third disconnected?

Thanks for this. Bought the 2nd card (hey, it was cheaper and ships from the US).

Sent a question to confirm the actual reader is included in the palmrest (i.e. not just the shell).

Well, the product I bought on eBay is now "out of stock" and the seller emailed me (is refunding my payment).

Would this one work in an X230? It doesn't specify X230 (does say X220 though). Just making sure.

FYI, if you are buying a Thinkpad, for the love of God, upgrade to the 6205 or 6300 at the time of purchase. Finding the correct "whitelisted: version after the fact is a nightmare.

I think they are all the same FRU... so it should still work.
