I bought one of the following, and it works just fine (audio and video). The first adapter I bought did not pass the audio signal, so be careful what you get.

For only $6.56 each when QTY 50+ purchased - DP (DisplayPort) Male to HDMI® Female Adapter | DisplayPort to HDMI | DVI | VGA Adapters

Even so, I prefer to use the Intel WiDi (wireless display) technology. You install the drivers, buy an adapter that plugs into your TVs (or monitors) HDMI port, and display your laptop screen on the external display wirelessly. You can even browse the internet at the same time on your laptop. I have watched youtube videos on my TV that were playing on my laptop.

I understand you don't give technical advise but I will ask this question because, maybe you can give me a quick direction. What mSATA do you recommend and is there a place I can get a quick read on what the procedure is to transfer the contents of the the hard drive to the newly installed mSATA. Thank you in advance if you choose to answer.I am considering going the x230t route and like your opinion on this.

Can the sleep charge thing be disabled? On some laptops this feature drains the battery way too quickly. Thanks.

It can be disabled in the BIOS, and it does not work at all if the laptop is on battery and hibernates or is off. So the only time it would drain battery is when a laptop is asleep. And it's only the one USB port.

    Guys
I have a clean install of win 8 on my x230t as my only operating system and I would like to set my battery thresholds but when I download the power manager (Win 8 beta driver and windows 7 l tried both) it doesn't give me the option to set them. Any help would be much appreciated.

I wouldn't recommend a particular mSATA SSD. I guess it would depend on how much space you need. I got the 80GB Intel, but that was the only option when I bought. I think if I were to do it now, I'd probably go for a 60GB.

Page 70 of the X230 HMM shows how to remove/install the WWAN card and its' the same procedure for the mSATA, except you don't have to connect the antennas. There's also videos showing how to do it on the training and support site. There's a link in the sticky.

Here's a picture of the mSATA in my X220i:

    Hello

Im expecting my x230t any day now.. I already have 16gb or vengeance ram to plug in and a samsung 256gb ssd and a screen protector a bunch of users said was good I bought from ebay for 3$. This is the screen protector isf anyone can tell me if it good or not Id appreciate it </title><meta name="description" content="16:9 Clear LCD Screen Protector Shield Cover Guard For 13.1 Widescreen LCD in Computers Tablets Networking , Laptop Desktop Accessories , Keyboard Protectors |eBay"><meta name="keywords" content="16:9 Clear L

Question: I am using this for econometrics and economics mostly. Is there any way that I can use onenote or word to quickly identify Beta 'hat' or x 'bar' or other greek letter/math symbols we use in mathematics quickly using the pen? I know how to do it without touch screen and it takes A LONG TIME (it isnt worth doing) and was really hoping this the x230t would help save time.

I hope someone has an answer thank you in advance.

    Didn't work.

I uninstalled all drivers and tried starting fresh and now neither the Win7 nor the Win 8 power manager (driver) will install....

I tried running both versions in compatibility mode with admin rights... still nothing.

    hi

just got my thinkpad x230t recently
so i guess i can post in this thread club

a tablet p.c. is cool cause you can write and draw on it
"gaming" laptops are more powerful but also more expensive
also heavy and hot i heard
tablet p.c.'s are "weaker" but less expensive
they also all seem to have lower screen resolutions
however thinkpad x230t is far better than my old desktop

keep in mind i haven't done alot with computer hardware
i just had the same untouched desktop for years
now i want to upgrade myself so i'm starting to unscrew

honestly i'm having trouble finding screwdrivers to fit
    1/4"x4" screwdriver is too big
3/16"x4" screwdriver only works with 1 screw
what screwdrivers do you use to open the x230t?

    question
looking to upgrade ram on my tablet p.c.
    Amazon.com: Corsair Vengeance Laptop Memory Kit 16 GB (2x8 GB) DDR3 1600MHz CL10 PC3 12800 (CMSX16GX3M2A1600C10): Computers & Accessories
is this the fastest sodimm ddr3 16gb 2x8gb ram there is?

    question
    if i wanted to add a second ssd to the ultrabase series 3;
Amazon.com: Thinkpad Sata HD Bay Adapter 3: Computers & Accessories
would that work with the thinkpad x230t?

    question
    if i wanted to add a second ssd to the ultrabase series 3;
    amazon dot com/Thinkpad-Sata-HD-Bay-Adapter/dp/B002HKFE2K/
would that work with the thinkpad x230t?

    question
any videos of anyone getting a 9mm ssd to fit x230t?
should i attempt fitting a 9mm or get this 7mm?
is a 9mm better and can it hold more?
will the ultrabase series 3 or battery slice fit after it?

also is this a good sata to usb? links to better ones?
    Newegg.com - Vantec 2.5"/3.5"/5.25" SATA/IDE to USB 2.0 Adapter - Model CB-ISATAU2

EDIT: is anyone else having problems with system update?

Can offer suggestions on a few of your items, Person400000

I keep a precision screwdriver set around that works and they're cheap'n easy to get. In my workshop I also have an IT kit that I got a t a local computer shop that have screwdriver bits with magnetized heads.

I have the same RAM and IMHO it's plenty fast. Getting anything faster may also make your laptop hotter and the performance benefits are tangible. On a gaming laptop that'd be a consideration, though.

I'd stick with a 7mm, as modding a 9mm could kill your warranty on the drive. I'd recommend the Samsung 830 series, very nice 7mm drive.

also is this a good sata to usb? links to better ones?
    Newegg.com - Vantec 2.5"/3.5"/5.25" SATA/IDE to USB 2.0 Adapter - Model CB-ISATAU2

No idea about that one, but you could order the Samsung 830 drive with notebook upgrade kit, includes the adapter and Norton Ghost. Google around for the best prices.

OK, well I finally got back my X230T a week or so ago, now I'm leaving for Germany tomorrow evening...
Anyway, a couple of questions (all about the touch screen, sorry, I love touch screens ):
First, is it normal that the fine finger movements don't work too well? For example, when I adjust the volume using the control in the taskbar, I'll drag the slider up, and it sticks until I move my finger a certain distance (usually about 10-15 pixels), then jumps to where I am. That seems normal - it doesn't know wether I'm doing a right click or not - although turning off right click and that kind of stuff doesn't seems to help. Anyway, that seems more normal, except that when I stop my finger, keep it on the screen, and then move it the other way, the same thing happens again - it sticks until I move my finger about 10-15 pixels. Is this normal?
Also, sometimes when I hit the screen after I haven't used it for a minute or so, it doesn't recognize the first or first few touches. I'm assuming it's driver/power saving-related. Is this normal, too?
Then, the edges don't seem to work well - if I set the task bar to auto-hide, I have to work hard at swiping in to get it up - usually slightly sideways. Is this normal and does it affect the swipe-in behaviour in Windows 8 (not that I ever plan on installing it)?
Finally, something completely different, but still touch screen-related. I like trying out old games meant for the mouse on this touch screen (I've had a lot of fun with Marble Drop, an ancient Maxis game, although I have to run that in XP Mode and disable integration features for it to work properly). The problem is (not for Marble Drop, because it's in XP Mode, but other games) that many work in a different resolution, and the touch screen drivers don't recognize that, so either I have to stretch it, which is unthinkable for, yes, some of my train games, or recalibrate every time I change resolutions. Is there any way to get that adjusted, or at least some way I can swap calibration files, even manually?

    thanks..
i just wanted to know if better ram of that size existed
just to see if it can go higher
    i cant find it anywhere

thank i was actually planning on getting that

I just threw 16GB corsair vengeance from amazon and my 256 Samsung 830 from TigerD in and this is by far the best computer I've ever owned. Even with the stock Lenovo Win7 Pro image it's kicking butt (after I disabled all the bloated (although neat) Lenovo programs. Takes about 16 seconds to start, 5 to shutdown, plays my minecraft and CS:GO perfectly, and it sits on all 4 feet. So far I'm loving the keyboard, just completed a short 2k word-er for school and it was a pleasure.

Feel free to PM me if anyone needs any suggestions or w/e, as I know I wanted that option before I got mine... No regrets so far.

You could also consider going 1600 speed rated low voltage (1.35V instead of 1.5V) RAM to save power, sacrifice some performance on timing. Even though it's not much savings on power, it might make some differences since you are putting a lot of RAM in your laptop.

I think the timing speed has less effect compared to going from 1333 to 1600 speed, and even going from 1333 to 1600 isn't even that much different.

    How about someone with a x230 and a x100e? :p

The x230 IPS screen is way brighter and "better" than the x100e/x120e. The x100e uses a cheap TN panel where as the x230 can have an IPS display that offers more brightness, deeper blacks, higher contrast and nearly limitless viewing angles.

Thank you very much. I was a little concerned because some reviewers have said that the X230 screen is not as bright as Lenovo claims. The tested number was something like 280nits instead the 300nits claimed by Lenovo.

I am one more step closer to buying the X230. Still not happy that they did away with the HDMI output and use a mDP instead. This means I would have to spend about $20 for an adapter.

Hey everyone, I just received my x230t today, upgraded it to 16gigs of ram and a 128gb ssd =). First off, this thing is fast and I absolutely love the keyboard (even though it has taken me some time to get used to coming from an old hp).... I have the standing on three feet problem, its not very noticeable but it is definetly present.... I'm debating returning it and hoping for a better second one, any suggestions?

I'm looking at putting more RAM in my x230 (currently has a 4GB stick). What do I need to do to benefit from dual channel? Does the second stick need to be the same size with the same speed? Does it matter if the CAS latencies are different?

It will make a huge difference in ram and graphics benchmark (since it is integrated display).
Not sure if I can actually feel any difference.

So I carefully said it is huge in difference for benchmark.
I did not do gaming before inserting the ram, but I did run 3d mark 06 to test. (Some windows updates were done between tests, it may result in deviation.)

Has anybody checked if the mini display port has audio out? I want to buy an HDMI adapter to connect my laptop to the TV for video streaming.

    Hello

I need to hook my x230t up to a HD 3D projector.

At Futureshop (Best Buy) the salesman told me to buy VGA-HDMI which isnt available in store.. I checked online and they are about 150$ (!).

Is that what I need or can I buy a simple miniDisplayPort-HDMI (and please supply a link if you can find one)?

Is this good enough/ all I need? StarTech DisplayPort to HDMI Video Adapter Converter (DP2HDMI2) : Computer Adapters - Future Shop

    Thanks

    Z.bra

So far the laptop is great (soooooo fast) but I have to work on the handwriting software more, also if anyone knows of math software (or a way to make Word/ one-note) recognize symbols like alpha, beta, beta hat, x bar etc, I would very much appreciate the advice.

    @zbra

You have a full size Displayport (X230T), not mini displayport (X230). You need a Displayport to HDMI adapter, and it doesn't have to be an active one.
Monoprice used to sell Displayport to HDMI cable for cheap, but they don't sell them any more because some rule that Displayport or HDMI enforced. Now what you can do is get a Displayport (male) to HDMI (female) adpater which is $7.59 plus small shipping, then use a normal hdmi cable (hdmi to hdmi).

    Thanks hp

I suppose that means something like this: Nexxtech® Display Port to HDMI Swivel Adapter | Video Accessories | Ratings & Reviews | TheSource.ca would work?

Im just rather fed up with ordering from the US so am looking for a Canadian distributor...too many people who sell things like a 4 dollar screen protector and list the value as 55 and I end up paying taxes and duties of 50 dollars. It seems every add on I order (ssd, screen protector, ram) the sellers declared insane amounts ...something I had never had trouble with before.

Note: earlier link was the same set up.. I just wrote miniDisplayport; but it isn't a mini one- it just takes 10 business days to arrive and I was to use my 3d projector asap....

@zbra - Either the Nexxtech swivel adapter or the Startech dongle from Future Shop would work. A little tip, I'm in Canada as well and I order some items via NCIX.com. Though it looks like they don't really have a better deal going.

Does anyone else own a slice battery and a 3 cell? My slice arrived today and there is a huge whole in the middle (I suppose to fit the 6-cell) and it doesnt attach at all to the rear right side . It makes the build look and feel extremely cheap and flimsy.... I think I might return it. Anyone else experience the same? I can literally pull that back corner down 1 centimeter....

What is the max resolution obtainable with this laptop?(x230)

    quote from wiki
" The maximum pixel clock rate for HDMI 1.0 was 165 MHz, which was sufficient to support 1080p and WUXGA (1920×1200) at 60 Hz. HDMI 1.3 increased that to 340 MHz, which allows for higher resolution (such as WQXGA, 2560×1600) across a single digital link"

Has anyone ordered in the last week or so?

I ordered an x230 last week (Sept 6) and gave me an estimated ship date of the 12th. It got pushed back to the 14th and today came, it got pushed back again to the 20th. Is this normal for Lenovo? I know these are "estimates" but Im now wondering if it will be pushed back again once the 20th comes.
