It means you can't have both mSATA and WWAN since they both use the same port.

They just mean you can't have both options. For the purpose of system configuration, they are incompatible, as the WWAN card uses the only mSATA slot in the laptop.

Oh, that's a relief... For a moment I thought they meant the slot itself is incompatible.

Does it mean if I order my notebook with one of the Gobi 3000 cards and later decide to install an mSata SSD in it, that is not possible?

It means you can't have _both_ wwan and mSATA, take your pick.

Not sure where to post this question but I will try here.. I have just got the 2100 hdd not detected error.. My x220 is 2 weeks out of warrenty.. .. If I get a msatt can i just use it as my main drive with a regular hard drive.. Short of paying for a new mainboard, I think it might be the only option to get my laptop running again.. ? Thanks for any help you's can offer.. Im not very happy with lenovo.. This is a known error, yet they refuse to do anything as the warrenty has expired..Most companies extend warrenty for known issues or at least have some sort of good will offer to share costs.. I'm hopiing the msata instal will get me running again .. ???

If the question is, can you use the msata as a boot and os drive? The answer is yes.

I just ordered a x230 and a 256gb ssd to pop in once in arrives.

Is there any advantage to installing one of those 32gb super caches along side a ssd? what gains would it give over just using the main ssd drive?

Just about nothing. Their benefit is that they are way faster than hdds, but you aren't going to set it up to do pre-caching for an ssd, it will just be another drive to the computer. If you want two ssds, just buy a second msata that holds at least 60 or so, and use it as a boot drive.

You can get a mSata 256GB SSD but it's expensive.

Sounds like a good future investment for a second drive once prices dropto a reasonable amount. You wold suffer a small battery decrease with two drives but extra storage never hurts :)

How much of an effect would having a second msata drive have on battery life?

I was debating possibly adding a msata drive for extra storage (or just use an SD card..)

Would it be enough of a impact to worry about?

An msata drive should have lower power usage than a fullsize ssd or an hdd. You would do better to have an msata as a boot drive with a hdd for storage, but if the prices come down enough there isn't anything wrong with buying one for extra storage. My x230 is reporting 5.5 hours of life remaining on a full charge right now, with a 120gb msata and 500gb 7200rpm hdd installed along with 8gb of ram.
