I'm looking to get a X230. Missed the 3-days sales.
Was checking in daily and saw a similar sales again.
I will be using the X230 as a main PC when at home. Hence I'm thinking of getting either an ultrabase or minidock for connection to an external monitor + keyboard.
I'm a little concerned if the ultrabase or minidock would interfere with the heat dissipation of the unit, since I may have it on for very long stretches at a time.
I'm getting a msata ssd, and run most of my programmes off it. Aside from the speed benefits, i'm also hoping to minimize the heat generated from the main HDD.
Is there any difference with respect to the heat dissipation?
Thank you!

I have the Mini Dock and use it extensively. If you see it from the side you see that there is a gap of about 1cm at the back end between dock an machine, so heat dissipation should not be worse then when you are using it flat on a desk.
I am not sure about the Ultrabase. A friend of mine has it and he uses the laptop similarly to me and he never complaint about heat issues. -
I use the minidock with the x220 regularly. I haven't had any heat issues when I've run my 6+ hour simulations off of it. The fan can get a little high pitched when its pushed to those levels for an extended period.

Thanks all.
For my personal use, I've decided to skip the ultrabase, and go with the usb 3.0 dock, allowing me to use a cooler pad below.
Will have to link up via USB, have flip open the cover to switch it on, and plug in the power supply manually.
Just a little anal when it comes to heat.
But for those purchasing the x230, B&N's offering comes up to $238 for the ultrabase + dvd recorder as an option.
X230. Heavy Use. Ultrabase or MiniDock better for heat dissipation
