    Has anyone experienced this before?
When I turn on the backlight of the keyboard using Function + Space bar (off -> low), the indicator shows on the screen, but the lights are actually still off. If I press it again (low -> high), indicator on the screen now shows high brightness and the keyboard backlight comes on as high. I don't want high brightness because low is already bright enough and high uses more power (up to 1W) and causes 1W worth of heat, so if I press the Fn + Space two more times (high -> off -> low) to make it low brightness, then it works.

Sometimes it works right away, but sometimes it doesn't. Anyone know why this happens?

This happened to me a couple of times as soon as I installed Windows 8 and I thought it was a driver issue. After a couple of reboots it went away and I had completely forgotten about it until I read your post.
