Since the X240 thread is littered with meaningless spam about configuration/shipping etc, quite time consuming to sift through it all even using the search function, i have a few questions for X240 owners pertaining to the actual machine, ( i know crazy).

Is the fan noise an issue in current models?
Is heat an issue in current models, along with warping?
Is flexing particularly noticeable (bad in x220), can it sustain normal travelling without having any issues with the screen being damaged unlike previous generations?
How does the battery degrade over time (internal)? (state how you use it as well)
How shallow is key travel compared to a W530?
Does the IPS display easily develop white spots?

I do not own a X240, but have handled them in the past. The fan is silent but it is small, so prepare yourself for some whining when stressing the X240.

The X240 stays very cool. When under full load, which doesn't normally happen that often, the area beneath the fan can become quite hot, though the rest of the machine stays cool regardless.

Flexing is a non-issue so far, I've owned a X220 for the longest time and the X240 is superior to it most aspects, including build quality. The screen is much more rigid and the base does not flex at all, unlike the X220 which you could easily bend to make it stand on three rubber feet.

Not enough time has passed to make any statements about the longevity of the batteries, however, I have heard that the internal battery tends to keep its charge a bit longer due to it being a Lithium-Polymer as opposed to a Lithium-Ion. That being said, from what I have heard the batteries are nothing to write home about. I'm not sure which manufacturers exist, but you can expect them to last similarly long as recent Sanyo batteries. So decent, but nothing compared to a good Panasonic.

The key travel on the X240 is very shallow, though decent considering how thin the machine is. It offers noticeably less key travel than the W530 but despite this, I still prefer the X240's keyboard.

Spots don't seem to have been an issue since the X230 and I've only ever heard of a couple of X220's that had this issue, so I think it's pretty safe to say that the X240 IPS does not have any such issues.

thank you for the reply, i just remember seeing a lot of issues with IPS displays before such as whitespots and ghosting and the lid flexing on previous generations, i had an x220 without it though but i guess people with issues are usually more vocal about it, hopefully i can pick up one soon, was trying to avoid getting a macbook air
