    X30, can it boot from a USB CD-ROM Drive?

    My HDD crashed on my X30 and since it has no built in optical, I can't re-install the normal way.

    Not 100% sure, but my guess would be yes. You may have to mess around with the bios settings so it looks for the USB drive.

    It will boot from a USb cd-rom but not from a flash drive

    Yes it will. I installed XP from a usb DVD-ROM
