The keyboard on my X300 flexes quite a bit. When any key on the left side is pressed the adjacent keys move visibly, and it feels like I'm typing on a pillow. I checked the screws in the underside, and found they were both tight. So I removed the keyboard to take a look, and found there's an empty screw-hole in the frame of the "disk" holder, directly under the "D" key. May I assume that my experience is not normal, and that the screw-hole should have a screw in it?

Are you sure its a screw hole and not a drain hole?

If its a screw hole, call up support and ask them to send you the screw, which they'll probably send out the entire kit.

Also, consult the hardware manual if you're unsure.

    A drainhole? You're kidding, right? Last I looked, this isn't a water-cooled computer.
The hardware manual doesn't show a picture of that area. I did get a "screw kit" from support, but none of the screws fit. Is there anyone out there willing to pop the keyboard on their X300 and take a look? I hate to send the machine on a wild goose chase round trip to the repair depot if it's really supposed to be an empty hole.

No, he's not. If you look along the edge of the battery, you'll see a tiny image of the keyboard with a droplet under it. Those are the drainholes where fluid will come out if it's spilled on the keyboard.

I took a look under the keyboard of my X300, and I have a similar open hole right under the "D" key in the frame holding the disk, just like you describe, so I guess that's normal. I'd say there is a slight amount of flex on the left-hand side of my keyboard, visible if I push down hard on a key, but nothing like what you describe.
