Anyone know when/if the Thinkpad X300 will have a Montevina refresh anytime soon? I'm trying to decide between an x200 or x300. I would get the x300 hands down if it had the Montevina processor inside!

It will have and it will be soon (they will probably ship it by August).
-
I hope you are right - I haven't heard much at all about this, and it's just what I'm holding out for!
I hope it gets a reasonable processor boost with the chipset update, and either an SSD that's larger or cheaper or a regular hdd option... but the size and features of this are the sweet spot for me. The X200 is tempting for power but I prefer the lower weight, LED backlight and optical drive. -
Sweeet! Let's hope the refresh is in EARLY August because I need the laptop by September for school!
-
Actually, does anyone know if it will be available for purchase on August 5th as well?
-
Anyone? Fade to Black?

roycer,

Thank you. -
I am also waiting for a Centrino 2 update; it seems like no one is covering news/knows about a date though.
Any luck? -
Do you all think the x300 will use the small-form-factor Centrino 2 chipset? I thought that wasn't launching until September...
-
If the x300 doesn't get a refresh by early-mid August I'm just going to get an x200 with ultrabase. I need a laptop for school!
-
Go for the X200. I doubt the X300 will come out in time. Also, don't forget to factor in the shipping time.
-
So if the website says 15 days... Is it really 15 business days, or is that just a "suggestion" ?
-
side question.... will the x300 ever come with a standard hd, or always ssd?

These are the processors that are available to Lenovo for the refresh:
http://www.anandtech.com/cpuchipsets/intel/showdoc.aspx?i=3356&p=4
Not to mention that the X4500 IGP has 25% more shaders, 7% faster core speeds, and an 11% reduction in power consumption!
http://www.anandtech.com/cpuchipsets/intel/showdoc.aspx?i=3356&p=5
Furthermore, the GM45 is 65nm, using less power than the GM965 and the DDR3 will also help with power consumption. -
With the X300 using a "low-voltage" CPU, wouldn't that eliminate most of those? I don't know a lot about the current CPU field, but the TDP on the L7100 is 12W.
Also I think the processor in the X300 is " unlisted" at Intel so maybe they are cooking up something else entirely for the small form factor.
