When I press keys in the area of the letter "D" firmly on my X300, the entire left side of the keyboard flexes slightly. Several attempts to repair have been fruitless, and I don't know if this is a problem with the whole model or just my unit. Does anyone else have an X300 with or without this problem?

I read a few posts with people having similiar problems it could be that it was built that way.

I'd get them to replace it on warranty. There is not meant to be any keyboard flex at all. They might tell you to reseat it but I'd try and get it replaced. Unacceptable for a product that costs that much and with a reputation for great keyboards.

As for "reseating", I've actually replaced the keyboard completely with one they sent me, and then sent the X300 in to them for repair (twice!) with no improvement. That's why I was wondering if there are any X300's without this problem; if not, getting it replaced would just be another frustrating waste of time.

Sorry to hear about your troubles tangible, I wasn't aware this has been a long drawn out, tried-everything type affair.

I know I'd be royally angry. Perhaps ask on forum.thinkpads.com there's a lot more people on it with specialism in Thinkpads and it's quite a large active forum as well.

I appreciate the sympathy! I have already posted a similar question on thinkpads.com. There have been a few reports there of a similar problem. One person said he only sees it when he presses "very hard". Without a side-by-side comparison, it's impossible to know how that compares to my experience, though. My overall experience with many Thinkpads is that the keyboard is rock solid, but perhaps Lenovo cut some corners on this design in its zeal to be as thin as possible.

I can't comment on the X300 but I think they'd be shooting themselves in the foot if they compromised on the keyboard on any of their models.

From all the reviews that I have read, everyone seems to think it's brilliant. Including the keyboard.

Hmmm...so thinkpad keyboards shouldn't have any flex? My new X61 has a bit of flex on the right side if I press any key on te right side firmly. This isn't correct?

Also i get ALOT of flex when I press on the aread between the ThinkVantage button and the power button
