Does anyone know / predit if the X301 will launch with the W500 / T400 / T500 tomorrowish or will I be waiting until later in the year for my precious? :p

Intel documents claim that the SU9400 processor that will be in the X301 launches after Montevina in Q4, 2008. However, Intel did supply Apple with processors well before the launched so I hope they will do this for Lenovo as well.

I doubt it will be tomorrow since X300 is still pretty new and it hasn't been getting as much attention as the T and W lines.

I'm hoping X200 will be released tomorrow.

Any launch date rumors left on the X301? I did find this spec sheet but it doesn't include anything previously unknown as far as I can tell.

Great and I just bought an X300. Literally, this is my second boot on this machine. I love it but not too impressed with the processor. I paid the SSD premium but it barely makes up for the pathetic 1.2GHz power. Would I be able to upgrade down the road to an X301 processor or even X302/X303??

Depends what you're doing, but for ultraportable tasks, it really is more than capable. I'm impressed by the performance I'm getting. Doubt the 1.4GHz will bring significant increases in processor performance that you can "feel" the difference.

    say for firefox/thunderbird/openoffice/ssh sessions ?

also the X300 has 4mb cache and the X301 will have 3mb cache as it states , which will be faster ? 0.2Ghz extra or 1MB cache extra ?

The cache is not that significant, neither is the processor speed, but in this case, the newer architecture may provide more efficiency over the older Merom chips.

For the tasks you plan to do, the 1.2GHz is more than adequate. Perhaps even a netbook will do. The X300 runs VMs well too, so it's not as sluggish really.

the x301 has different chip ? ie higher bus speed or what?

excuse my ignorance what does VMs means ? :)

Does anyone know if the X301 will be available with a HDD opposed to SSD?

yeah, bus speed goes up to 1066MHz (DDR3) and VMs are Virtual Machines afair, I was wondering myself how X300 would run VM... crixx, are you using VMWare or Sun Virtualbox (or perhaps something different altogether)? i assume that you're running Windows on your X300, correct?

No it's not slow at all. I'm constantly amazed at how quick it is despite 'only' having a dual core 1.2.

Like many I buy into the headline CPU speed as being the only factor in defining the performance of a system. Truth is your system performance is defined by a number of components most especially the hard drive.

True you're not going to want to use an ultraportable for truly CPU intensive tasks such as rendering, then again many who do have intense CPU requirements won't even think of using any notebook.

Modern dual core processors even relatively low spec models have more than enough horsepower for most tasks. I run Visual Studio, SQL Server, MySQL and several Java IDE's all at once and the X300 runs them all without a problem. It helps having 4gb RAM and a second gen Sata SSD.

Tell the truth it oftens feels snappier than my MBP 17" 2.6ghz penryn notebook.

The Engadget comment section is going wild with speculation on the "2GB RAM max." This doesn't jive with the spec sheet I saw earlier, which said 4GB max (more expected)... but then again if I understand it correctly they report a higher FSB also (1066MHz vs. 800). So I guess we can wait and see what it actually is. :)

I also wish there was a cheaper non-SSD option, but the SSD is probably essentially required to offset the performance of the processor and the negligible battery life (as compared to the X200, anyway).

Looks like Lenovo lopped another couple of hundred bucks off the X300s even before the 10% discount they're offering. I don't know if I'd pay an ~$800 premium on the X301.

Sorry, I was just referring to this HK listed config posted earlier. Not only does it show a different FSB and max RAM, but also half the L2 cache sites are reporting. So it's probably not that reliable... but I trust that the max RAM is correct, at least :)

The Intel X4500MHD IGP is supposed to be able to assist with playback of blue-ray and h.264 compressed material. The X301 would be nice, if it turned out capable of playing back 1080p material (on its displayport) despite its poor CPU but thanks to decoding acceleration from the Montevina chipset.

The SU9400 processor is a 1.4Ghz processor so those TopSellers have a mistake with either the clock speed or the processor model.

I am hoping a 3 year warranty option shows up on the X301. That is a deal breaking for me if it doesn't!
