Hi
I just noticed that my screen color quality was set up to 16Bit (medium) can be seen in presentation director and Intel GMA software Are there any reasons why I should not beef it up to 32bit (highest)? like slower machine or shorter battery idle times.
Also is there a visible difference it is not all that cear to my eye

Might as well use 32-bit as it provides more colors resulting in better image quality, any effect on battery life would be negligible.
Here's a comparison:

"32-bit" is really 24-bit (8-bit each for Red, Green, Blue, and a unused Alpha channel).
However, you may not notice much if any difference from the 32/24bit depth on the x301. Like almost all notebooks, as well as desktop TN panels, the x301 has a 18-bit (6-bit each for Red, Green, Blue) display. So, in theory the 32-bit mode should allow for 4 times as many discrete colors and possibly some enhanced dithering for the missing colors. The difference will be most noticeable in gradients (like posted above).
In short, run in 32-bit, but don't expect a world of difference.
