I'm trying to decide between these two... Obviously the sony z has a better screen which i also like but does x301 have any significant advantages over the sony z? Any experience with both of them? The x301 im looking at has 3gb ram and 128gb ssd drive, 6 cell and the sony z is a 2.4gz 250gb HD 4gb ram

Any opinions... I'm mostly looking to be able to travel around lightly with atleast 3-4 hours of laptop life, do alot of online stock trading, office work, some visual studio 2008, and edit images in cs3 from my slr and watch youtube ofcourse :)

The x301 is much more solidly built. It has a far superior keyboard. The SSD will make it very fast for any task that is disk rather than CPU bound (the vast majority of things you do with a computer).

The extra processing power of the Sony Z would only be a benefit when applying filters in Photoshop or compiling programs in VS 2008. For everything else, the 1.4GHz C2D will be more than adequate.

I wanted to give Sony a chance and looked long and hard at their machines before going with Lenovo. I actually bought a Sony SZ (preferring it to the Z because of the more standard keyboard), but had to return it a couple of weeks later because the touchpad would routinely whack out on me (something to do with improper shielding between the touchpad and the rest of the palm rest). After spending a couple of days trying to get the touchpad to behave properly through software settings, I did a Google search and found that this was a known problem for the SZ, and that Sony continued to put them out that way.

I then considered the Sony Z (figuring Sony had worked out the touchpad problems by now), but having gotten wiser ( ;) ), I did a search on their problems first. I found repeated references to a keyboard issue where many users reported double keystroking of characters (again, regardless of the sensitivity setting used). I went to a Sony store to see for myself -- and immediately replicated this double keystroke problem.

I thought of down-sizing to the Sony TT, so while at the Sony store, tried that model also. Guess what -- I also got the double keystroke problem on that model...!

So anyway, I decided to give Sony a pass, and just last month took possession of a beautiful Lenovo X200 tablet.

Suffice to say I have not looked back... :)

I wrote a post about this ? a couple of months back if it helps. Adobe aside, it sounds like you don't need a powerful processor, so that reason may not apply to you..
