    It is normal for the fan to continually run at a low rate (e.g. 1200rpm). However, many users reported the x300 (and possibly x301) has an issue where it runs at a very high rate (e.g. 5800 rpm) continuously. TP Fancontrol is an effective way to force the fan to run at a lower rate while still maintaining acceptable temperatures.

    It's a temporary glitch. I had this happen once with my X200. Try switching power modes. Cleared up the problem on my laptop. No problems since. I also heard that Access Connection may affect the fan, so try turning off wifi and see if it helps. If so, disable access connection and connect to wifi via Vista's connection manager.

    depends on the temperature and load;

    if the ambient temperature is hot (28c+), it runs all the time after it boots.

    if the ambient temperature is cold (22c-) the fan rarely ran, only on high usage the fan will spin, the notebook is absolutely dead silent when this happens.

    i think what you're having is normal. other notebook that have standard voltage core2duo always has its fan running, i think it was 2000rpm minimum in the MB and the MBP, and it will spin to 4000rpm or even 6000rpm i think.

    unless your fan never spins down even after you're idling and the room temperature is cold, that, i dont know whats wrong. try running that PC-Doctor?

    after heavy task; which will make the fan ran fast, my X300 has its fan spins down when after its idling.
