Normally I would go for X301. But at the price of $999 with 128GB SSD in Dell Adamo, I am torn between the two. What would you buy? X301 with 128GB SSD would easily go over $1500, right?

I believe the Microsoft store was selling both for about $1000. I'm not sure if it included an SSD though.

The Dell is better looking (Aluminum vs Plastic) and the thin bezel on the screen is sweet.

The X301 has a built in Optical drive, its lighter, and more durable.

I'd want the one that comes configured with the faster processor though (ie 1.2GHz vs 1.6Ghz). An SSD can be added later.

The X301 at Microsoft store has 120gb 5400rpm HD, 2gb ram and optical drive.

The processors are the same SU9400 for the X301 at Microsoft Store and Dell Adamo (Admire).

The only gripe is that Adamo has single dimm slot. Since I have external optical drive, Adamo seems attractive. Yet, I don't want to give up the thinkpad keyboard... ahhh...

Adamo may look nice but it is no where as nice to actually USE. Have you ever typed on one...terrible.

post this in Dell's forum and you'll get 10 ppl voting for Adamo :D. I'd say T410s all the way.

While that's true, look how the two laptops were built. Those super thin machines that are made just to be a show piece are not the greatest to work one. Having typed on an Adamo, I would hardly want that to be my main laptop no matter how it looked.

    Just depends on user priorities!

I thought about posting it on the Dell forum. However, I have loved my thinkpads, and I wanted to know what I would have felt if I went for a Dell.

Of course, without budget constraint, I would go for T410s or X301 without any hesitation. But, money doesn't grow on trees. :)

And, jaredy, thank you for your input on the keyboard on Adamo. I haven't seen Adamo in reality nor typed on it.

With current sales you can go for the T400s or X301. But you have to hurry, probably.

I think the T400s from a usability, portability and more importantly value for money perspective is a X301 killer.

If you considered the X301, i think you should really consider the T400s and given the current round of sales there are some serious bargains to be had.

If the higher-spec'd Adamo went to $999, even I would buy it =).

Before you buy the lower-end one, make sure you read up on the battery life. No thinking person would spend a thousand dollars on an ultraportable that gets 2.5hrs of battery life. It's just unacceptable.

If I could afford it I would also go for T400s or T410s but they are well over U$ 2,500 here ... seem like very fine machines and they actually have a centered screen or so it seems, unlike the T61 and T400 series. It does not bother me but I have always found it a little odd ...
